Kyun mile ham tum bewafaa o sanam

Fans of my generation remember Ashok Kumar and Nirupa Roy for playing the roles of parents, but that was not always the case. In their younger days (it may be difficult to believe, but they were actually young as some time in the past), they actually acted in lead roles.
“Bedard Zamaanaa Kyaa Jaane” (1959) is one movie where the two acted opposite each other in lead roles.
Here is a duet picturised on the two. The song is sung by Rafi and Lata. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist and music is composed by Kalyanji. This song “kyun mile tum ham bewafa o sanam” is the farmaish of Lalitha and she hastily clarifies that the lyrics of this song are no reflection on me. 🙂 Nice to know that, Lalitha.

Lyrics
kyun mile tum-ham
bewafaa o sanam
lut gayi zindagi
kyaa khushi kyaa gham
kyun mile tum-ham
bewafaa o sanam
lut gayi zindagi
kyaa khushi kyaa gham
kyun mile tum-ham
hasraten ghaayal hain ab to
zindagi khaamoosh hai
hasraten ghaayal hain ab to
zindagi khaamoosh hai
jaane waale khush ho ke jaanaa
ham pade behosh hain
ruk gayaa kaarwaan
rah gaye bedam
kyun mile tum-ham
bewafaa o sanam
lut gayi zindagi
kyaa khushi kyaa gham
kyun mile tum-ham
chain ik pal bhi na paayaa
hamne tere pyaar mein
chain ik pal bhi na paayaa
hamne tere pyaar mein
hanste hanste lut gaye ham
is bhare baazaar mein
ye jahaan beraham
kyaa jiyenge ham
kyun mile tum-ham
bewafaa o sanam
lut gayi zindagi
kyaa khushi kyaa gham
kyun mile tum-ham
bewafaa o sanam
lut gayi zindagi
kyaa khushi kyaa gham
kyun mile tum-ham

Your writeup above (for the 1959 movie Bedard Zamana Kya Jane) starring Ashok Kumar and Nirpa Roy is interesting. You say the following. “Fans of my generation remember Ashok Kumar and Nirupa Roy for playing the roles of parents, but that was not always the case. In their younger days (it may be difficult to believe, but they were actually young as some time in the past), they actually acted in lead roles.”
Well, Nirupa Roy (born in 1931) was young (about 27-28) but Ashok Kumar (born in 1911) was definitely not young (at 47-48). Surprisingly though, Nirupa Roy, in 1955, played Dev Anand’s mother in Munimji (1955). She was about 23-24 while Dev Anand (born in 1923) was about 8 years older.

Wonderful song, as are many others from this movie. You have already 3 on this blog. There are four more songs, equally good and catchy.
1. Naina Hain Jaadoo Bhare O Gori Torey Naina Hain Jaadoo Bhare – Mukesh
2. Mein Yahaan Tu Kahaan Mera Dil Tujhe Pukaare – Lata, Rafi
3. Bedard Zamaana Kya Jaane – Rafi
4. O Bachke – Oonchi Edi Waalon Ne – Rafi, Geeta Dutt
