Apne nainon ko samjhaa de

on:Here is a Rafi Lata duet that I was not aware of till now. This song is from “Maa Aur Mamta” (1970), which had Jeetendra and Mumtaz in lead roles.
This song is picturised as a boat song on Jeetendra and Mumtaz, who are seen in a boat in the Arabian sea off Bombay. And the two of them, istead of enjoying the boatride decide to break into this duet.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist of this song. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Lyrics
Apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
chain churaate hain mera
ye nain tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
chain churaate hain mera
ye nain tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de
neend meri loot li re
teri aankhon ne
zamaane se main keh doongi
bahaane se main keh doongi
tu chakor hai mera
tu chitchor hai mera
hosh mere loote hain
teri zulfon ne
bahaaron se main keh doonga
ishaaron se main keh doonga
ho o
paas bulaate hain mujhko
ye honth tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
chain churaate hain mera
ye nain tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de
lalalala
lalalala
lalalalala
lalalalalala
khwaab tere meri raaton mein aate hai
manaa kar dena taanon ko
na chheden ye armaanon ko
into rok de zara
tu inko tok de zara
geet tere mere hothhon pe aate hain
manaa kar dena taanon ko
na chheden ye armaanon ko
ho o
aag lagaati hain dil mein
har baat tere dil waale
apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
chain churaate hain mera
ye nain tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de
ye baat inhen tu batla de
chain churaate hain mera
ye nain tere matwaale
apne nainon ko samjha de

Atul ji,
MAA AUR MAMTA-1970 was a film made at a time, when our country was undergoing a political upheaval.Mrs.Indira Gandhi had split the Congress. She had also taken some daring decisions in national interest like,Nationalisation of Banks and Abolition of Privy Purses etc.
The whole country was talking about socialism and secularism.
The makers of this film also tried to make this film as a token of secularism by building the story around Hindu,Muslim and Christian characters.
Maya(Nutan) is d/o a poor chaprasi-peon-Gopal(Shivraj),serving with Father Henry. One day, when Gopal is dying,Father Henry(Rehman) comes with a baby, gives it to Maya and asks her to look after it till he comes back. Her father dies and Father Henry also disappears.Poor Maya can not explain the baby with an unwed girl, and is driven out of the town by villagers.
Maya comes to Bombay with Ram-the baby, and finds shelter with a kind Muslim taxi driver Cassim(Jayant).Ram(Jeetendra) grows up and goes to college.Cassim leaves taxi and takes up a job with Mr.Williams.Mr and Mrs Williams are sad because their baby son was kidnapped and is not yet traced. To help the couple,Maya works with the Williams(Ashok kumar and Nirupa Roy). They have adopted the brother Peter(Karan Dewan)and Mrs.Peter(Shabnam)’s son Victor(Roopesh kumar).Ram and Victor study in same class and love the same girl Mary(Mumtaz).
When Maya learns that Ram is the lost son of Williams, she is scared, but Ram assures her that her Mamata is greater that any other thing in this world.Williams also knows this.Meanwhile Father Henry reappears from nowhere and explains everything.
They all hail and appreciate the Maa-Maya and her Mamta for Ram.
They message is Maa aur Mamta is bigger that any religion !
There is an interesting song in this film-
“Raj kapoor ki neeli aankhen,Devanand ki chaal
Dharmender ki mardangi aur Dilip kumar ke baal…..”
