on:I am on my long return journey back and so internet connectivity is once again an issue. when I reached a place with good internet connectivity, I failed to take advantage of that because of several reasons. Now I will wait for the next such opportunity and try to ensure that my writeups are ready for posting by that time.

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)
oooooooo
aye dil tujhi ko neend na aayi
tamaam raat
aye dil tujhi ko neend na aayi
tamaam raat
sotee rahee khuda ki khudaayi
tamaam raat
sotee rahee khuda ki khudaayi
tamaam raat
apni to ek bhi na chali
dil ke saamne
apni to ek bhi na chali
dil ke saamne
reh reh ke teri yaad bhulaayi
tamaam raat
reh reh ke teri yaad bhulaayi
tamaam raat
kis maah-e-aasmaan ke tassavvur mein raat bhar
kis maah-e-aasmaan ke tassavvur mein raat bhar
zaalim tumhen bhi neend na aayi tamaam raat
zaalim tumhen bhi neend na aayi tamaam raat

What a lovely song you have profiled in this post. Amirbai Karnataki was definitely one of the most accomplished women to have served in the Bombay film industry; that she did so at a time when most women were forbidden by their fathers, husbands and sons to leave the house even to just WATCH movies makes her accomplishment even more significant.
In this song, she seems to be channeling Sajjad Hussain or Ghulam Haider’s compositional style (more so the former than the latter, perhaps).
For what it is worth, there is a typo in the lyrics of the last stanza of the song as written above: the first word of the second line is ‘taaro’ not ‘zaalim’ —
kis maah-e-aasmaan ke tassavvur mein raat bhar
*taaro* tumhen bhi neend na aayi tamaam raat
I have been visiting your blog for many a year now. Thank you for your service to the fans of Hindi film music.
