“Sehra” (1963) was a Shantaram Production movie. It was produced and directed by V Shantaram. The movie had Prashant, Sandhya, Mumtaz, Ullhas, Manmohan Krishna, Baburao Pendharkar, K. Date, M. Rajan, Lalita Pawar, Babloo etc in it.
The songs of this movie became popular and a few songs are popular even today. I have already discussed three such songs from this movie in the past.
The music of this movie was composed by Ramlal. This was the first released movie of Ramlal as a music director. He also composed music for V Shantaram’s next movie, viz “Geet Gaaya Pattharon Ne” (1965). Despite the success of the music of these two movies, Ramlal was unable to make it big in Hindi movies and he was soon lost to oblivion.
Today (4 july) is the death anniversary of this unsung music director. On this occasion, here is a song from “Sehra” (1963). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus. It is picturised on Sandhya and a few other ladies as a dance song.

i ve noticed that asha bhonsle has sung many of the famous songs in Shantaram’s movies. off hand i can think of “Ae Maalik Tere Bande hum” as a lata song. but even in “Navrang” we find many Asha songs but i don’t know of movies prior to the colour era, whether Lata Mangeshkar featured then. she must ve otherwise how can the industry survive

Thanks for a wonderful song. I want to clear my one doubt. What are the correct spellings of the name of Ash jee. Is it Asha Bhosle or Asha Bhonsle. Would appreciate if you could revert. Thanks.

Gramatically the correct name would be ASHA BHONSLE,but routinely the name can be written as ASHA BHOSLE,since the ‘N’ in the name is anyway silent.
