Suno suno hey nar naari

Posted on: July 25, 2012

Today (25 july) is the birth anniversary of Sudhir Phadke. He got very few opportunities to give music in Hindi movies. As a result, most of his musical creations are in Marathi, where he is a legend as a music composer as well as a singer.

In Hindi movies, who can forget his immortal compositions of “Bhabhi Ki Choodiyaan” (1961), especially the song Jyoti kalash chhalke. Another immortal song, viz. Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai(Pahli taarikh) (1954) is also his composition.

On this occasion, here is a song from one of his earliest movies. This song is a stage song that tells the story of Seeta Swayamwar. The song is sung with gusto by Manna Dey. The picturisation is quite a fun to look at.

Amar Verma is the lyricist of this song.

I am unable to identify the actors figuring in this picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Suno suno he nar naari ye katha puraani hai(Aage Badho)(1947) Singer-Manna Dey, unknown female voice, Lyrics-Amar Verma, MD-Sudhir Phadke

Lyrics

Suno suno he nar naari
ye kathaa puraani hai
ye kathaa puraani hai
ye kathaa puraani hai
Janak raj ki beti pyaari
huyi swayamwar ki taiyyari
ek dhanush aayega bhaaree
ee ee
ek dhanush aayega bhaaree
jo bhi uski dor chadhaaye
wahi Siya ka piyaa
usi ki Seeta Rani hai
usi ki Seeta Rani hai
ye katha puraani hai

desh desh ke raja aaye
bhesh banaaye
Raavan aaya
Raavan aaya
usse dekh raja ghabraaye

Ram Laxman rajkunwar matwaale
kunwar matwaale
kunwar matwaale
Vishwamitra guruji aaye
daadhi waale
dekh dekh kar hansta hai
Ravan abhimaani hai
Ravan abhimaani hai
ye katha puraani hai

haath liye jaimala Seeta aayi
seeta aayi
seeta aayi

paapi Rawan ki aankhen lalchaayin
aankhen lalchaayin
Seeta ne tab chaaron or
nazar daudaayi
nazar daudaayi
aur nazar daudaayi

Ramchandra ki chhabi nainon mein paayi
nainon mein paayi
nainon mein paayi

hiya soch kar
man hi man akulaayi
man hi man akulaayi
komal tan hai Ram
aur parvat si dhanush uthaani hai

komal tan hai Ram
aur parwat si dhanush uthaani hai
uthaani hai
uthaani hai

chalee lajaati Siya
magan hai jiya
nain sharmaate hain
aa aa
aasmaan ke bhoop lakhte
nar naari muskaate hain
Ramchandra ko Seeta rani
ne pehnaayi jaimala
jaimala ho jaimala
ye do hridayon ke madhur milan ki amar kahaani hai
amar kahaani hai
ye katha puraani hai
ye katha puraani hai

The actress in the background is Khurshid. The hero of the movie was Dev Anand. Here is a song in the same movie sung by the two on the screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXOSGj_Zlq8&feature=player_embedded#!

Atul ji,

The line
“aasmaan ke ?? mukul ??”
should read
“aasmaan ke bhoop lakhte”

The word ‘bhoop’ means King, and the word ‘lakh’ or ‘lakhna’ means to see. The line means that the kings of the heavens are seeing this event (from afar).

The line
“ye ?? madhur milan ki amar kahaani hai”
should read
“ye do hridyon ke madhur milan ki amar kahaani hai”
meaning – this is the tale of the divine union of two hearts.
