Guru Dutt is one of the few Hindi film personalities on whom one can find tonnes of information by way of articles, books and film documentaries. Within a short span of 13 years as a producer, director and actor, he left us with his rich legacy in about a dozen films. Under his own banner, Guru Dutt Films, he covered almost all the main genre of films – crime thriller, comedy, romance, social, melodrama and period. As an actor, his eyes spoke more than the dialogues. As a director, he was known for taking shots with unusual camera angles. The songs in his films narrated the story of the films on the continuum. His films were artistic within the ambit of what is called as popular commercial cinema. Even 48 years after his death, I guess, he has more fan followings than when he was alive. His films are the subject matter of intellectual discussions and they are a part of some film institutes’ curriculum.

“Pooja Ke Phool” (1964) was an A V M Production movie. It was directed by A Bhim Singh. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Nimmi, Mala Sinha, Dharmendra, Sandhya Roy, Nana Palsikar, Mohan Choti, Shivraj, Mukri, Sulochana Chatterji, Nimmi, Leela Chitnis, Pran etc in it.

When one looks at the yearwise list of songs in this blog. One finds that the oldest songs that we have in this blog are from 1933. Though Hindi talkies began to be produced in 1931 itself but the records of songs of these movies were not produced. It was only in 1932 that the idea of issuing gramophone records for songs was thought about. But as happens with most new ideas, the potential behind this concept was not immediately realised and only a few movie makers opted to have records of songs of their movies issued.

The movie had Reena Roy, Navin Nischol, Mehmood, Jayashree T , Reeta Bhaduri, Shekhar Kapoor, Amjad Khan, Suresh Oberoi, Jeevan, Sajjan, Raja Duggal, Murad, K.N.Singh, Mridula, Gauri Verma, Anil Chandavarkar, Pardesi, Maanik, Naidu, Bhooshan Tiwari, Sundar Taneja, Ashok Khanna etc in it.
