“Zameendaar” (1942) was a Pancholi Arts production. It was directed by Moti B Gidwani. The movie had S D Narang, Manorama, Shanta Apte, Ghulam Mohammed, Anwari, M Ismail etc in it.
Today (9 november) is the death anniversary of Ghulam Haider. On this occasion, here is a song from “Zameendaar” (1942). This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Behzad Lucknowi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Haider.

Thanks for remembering my relatives Pancholi brothers. They were Brahmins from Halwad, Saurastra, with strong drive for business, and were very successful in Karachi and Lahore. After partition Dalsukhbhai came to Mumbai and his first successful film was Nagina, an adult certified film with a minor heroin Nutan.

ZAMINDAR-1942 was a Pancholi Art pictures’ film,directed by their favourite Director that time Moti B.Gidwani.Those days Lahore was a part of Sind Presidency and Pancholi being a Sindhi,gave opportunities to many Sindhi artists(but never ever at the cost of non sindhi actors) to make and build their careers.Like Khazanchi,he took S.D.Narang as a Hero in this film also.The composer was Ghulam Hyder,whose assistant was Lal Mohammed,who later gave independent music to some films.
There were 4 Lyricists for 10 songs.This was the DEBUT film for Qamar Jalalabadi (Real name Omprakash Bhandari).In this film he wrote 2 solo songs and 3 songs written jointly with his seniors like Nazim Panipati(1)
and with Vahzad(2).The above song was written jointly by Qamar and Vahazad Lucknowi.
S.D.Narang (18.6.1918 to 25.1.1986) was a much educated person who started career in 1936.For next 50 years he did various things.He was Hero,side hero,character artist,producer,Director,Studio owner and even a Lyricist(College Girl-78).In 1960 he married actress Smriti BiswasHe continued acting till lasthis final role was in Kismatwala-86,which released after his death.
After the fantastic milestone film ( from this film onwards,the punjabi style music started in Hindi films) Khazanchi,Pancholi wanted another hit,so as a sequel,ZAMINDAR was made.Though the story was different,a murder mystery,he repeated his Khazanchi team-director Gidwani,Composer Gulam Hyder,Hero Satya Dev Narang and actors like,Gulam mohd.,
Manorama(Chachi in Seeta aur Geeta),jankidas,Ajmal,Butt etc.

Actor Ghulam mohd. started his career with Imperial and worked there from 32 to 38.In Madhuri he was the Villain.In Daku ki Ladki he was the Daku.He never was a Hero in any film.Pancholi called him to Lahore and offered good salary.He did Khazanchi,Zamindar and Shirin Farhad.
In Bombay he worked in about 20 films.After the Partition he went to Pakistan and died within 2 years in utter poverty and neglect.
ZAMINDAR-1942 was a take on the prevailing landlord system where the Landlords made easy money and troubled their tenants.
Ganesh(Gulam Mohd)was a tyrannical Zamindar who trusted no one.On a flimsy excuse he sacks his trusted wafaadar ManagerRaghubir(M.Ismail).
Karan(S.D.Narang) son of Ganesh and Rupa(Shanta
Apte),daughter of Raghubir,unknown to ganesh,are in love.Karan is a modern boy who does not like the squeezing of tenants and stands by them in a dispute with Ganesh.He is thrown out and disowned by his father.
The irate tenants decide to kill Ganesh.
One day Ganesh is murdered and the weapon-a pistol-belongs to Karan.He is arrested by Inspector Khan(G.N.Butt).
He is jailed.Rupa tries to investigate and finds a clue to the real
murderer,but does not tell the police.Rambha(Akhtar),a blind woman relative of Ganesh reveals an ancestral family secret and the murderer is arrested.
Karan is set free.
