Le ja uss ki duaayen

This is one of those few songs that Mohammed Rafi sang for Music Director Anil Biswas for the film ‘Heer’ (1956). Eight songs from this film already posted in the blog. They are all very touching song. This is a film on the legend of Heer-Ranjha, a folk lore of Punjab. Much of the folk music and poetry from this region is devoted to such legendary love stories like Heer-Ranjha, Sohni-Mahiwal and Mirza-Sahibaan. This song ‘ le ja uss ki du’aayen ho jo tera ho na sakaa ‘ is the ninth song to appear in the blog.
As per myswar.com this film has 14 songs, so there are 5 more songs left. Plus one more song, which I suppose is some Punjabi folk song sung by Rafi, which is not appearing in the myswar.com listing.
There is a duet song of Rafi and Asha in the film which in my opinion has the same tune as this song ” le ja uss ki du’aayen ho jo tera ho na sakaa ‘. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist of these songs. I had sent the lyrics of some songs from this movie, three of them were posted. But this song remained to be posted. I must have sent the lyrics of this song as a version song to the duet. But clearly, it is a different song, only the tune is same. And O P Nayyar used this same tune for this song in ‘Naya Daur” (1957) as well.
In the movie ‘Heer’ this Rafi solo is picturized on Pradeep Kumar playing Ranjha to Nutan as Heer. Heer is married to someone else and Ranjha is asked to pray for her. This is a poignant song as such situation songs usually are. Doli chadhhte hi Heer ne, Barbaad e muhabbat ki dua , Guzra hua zamaana aata nahin dobaara and Chal diyaa kaarwaan lut gaye ham yahaan are some examples of this genre of songs.
And this song from “Heer ” is a true jewel among the other glittering examples given above. Whatever his detractors may or may not have said about him Rafi sahab is giving his best and result is there for all to hear.
Like all great men and women, Rafi Sahab also had his share of few such critics. And while he was alive, he never needed to retort verbally, his singing did that for him.
Song-Le jaa uss ki duaayen (Heer)(1956) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Anil Biswas
Lyrics
le jaa uss ki dua’ayen
o o
jo teraa ho na sakaa
aa aa
apni jaati bahaaron se ae
galey mil ke ro na sakaa aa
apni jaati bahaaron se ae
gale mil ke ro na sakaa aa
in adaaon se teri sawaari chali
jaise gulshan se baad-e-bahaari chali
soone armaan ki mahendi rachaaye huye
soone armaan ki mahendi rachaaye huye
ban ke dulhan muhobbat hamaari chali
le jaa uss ki dua’ayen o o
jo teraa ho na sakaa aa
apni jaati bahaaron se ae
galey mil ke ro na sakaa aa
meraa gham dil mein le jaa nishaani meri
ab kisi se na kehna kahaani meri
mujh pe guzri so guzri
meraa gham na kar
mujh pe guzri so guzri
meraa kya main agar khaak bhi ho gayaa
meraa kya main agar khaak bhi ho gayaa
meri mitti bhi degi dua’ayen tujhe
meri mitti bhi degi dua’ayen tujhe
le jaa uss ki dua’ayen o o
jo teraa ho na sakaa aa
apni jaati bahaaron se ae
galey mil ke ro na sakaa aa
apni jaati bahaaron se ae
galey mil ke ro na sakaa aa

Very touching song indeed. Thanks for posting it.
‘meraa kya main agar khaak bhi ho gayaa
meri mitti bhi dengi duyaayen tujhe’
Since the film is based on the folk tales of Punjab, obviously, such films will have songs based on the folklore of Punjab. One would find the similar sounding tunes of the songs in some films. I know of two songs based on this tune in films, all prior to this film.

You are right , all have same tune, but the mood varies . The mukesh song is new for me, as was ‘ keh ke bhi na aaye tum ‘ .
Thanks and Regards.
