Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Chal diyaa kaarwaan lut gaye ham yahaan

Posted on: June 7, 2011

“Laila Majnu” (1953) is a movie that had Nutan and Shammi Kapoor in lead roles. Nutan made it big in Hindi movies soon, whereas Shammi Kapoor, who till then was struggling to find his feet, would finally re invent himself four years later.

Here is a melancholic song from this movie which is sung by Talat Mehmood and it is picturised o Shammi Kapoor. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Ghulam Mohammad is the music director. This has to be one of the first songs in Hindi movies that uses the word “Kaarwaan” (caravan) in a melancholic song. After that, this word would make their appearances regularly in Hindi movie songs

Song-Chal diyaa kaarwaan lut gaye ham yahaan (Laila Majnu) (1953) Singer-Talat Mehmood,Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni,MD-Ghulam Mohammad

Lyrics

chal diyaa kaarwaan,
lut gaye ham yahaan,
tum wahaan
chal diyaa kaarwaan,
lut gaye ham yahaan,
tum wahaan
gir padi bijliyaan,
jal gayaa aashiyaan,
uth rahaa hai dhuaan
chal diyaa kaarwaan

o jaane waale thahar zaraa,
fariyaad hamaari suntaa jaa
daaman pe likhi hai ashkon ne,
roodaad hamaari suntaa jaa
jee sakenge na ham,
tumse hoke judaa
jaa meri zindagi,
teraa haafiz Khudaa
teraa mehmil chalaa
asaraa-e-dil chalaa,
rah gayi daastaan
chal diyaa kaarwaan,
lut gaye ham yahaan,
tum wahaan
chal diyaa kaarwaan
