Just discovered that today is Runa Laila the Bangladeshi singers’ 61st birthday. For this I have to thank Facebook which had a YouTube link to 10 of Runa Laila’s Indian songs (bollywood to be exact). The list had two songs from Gharonda which is already with us on Atul.
Then I remembered a hugely popular song of the 1976 movie “Ek Se Badhkar Ek”. It was hatke for those times as normally we would have Asha Bhonsle giving play back for Helen. But this was in Runa Laila’s voice. Kalyanji- Anandji were the music directors for the movie and Verma Malik the lyricist.
The movie itself was a typical Brij movie with Ashok Kumar and Raj Kumar playing the main characters. And the hero Navin Nischol playing second fiddle. The story was also usual….. Ashok Kumar gets separated from his family or brother Raj Kumar. Anwar Hussain leads a gang that is after some precious stones etc. Sharmila Tagore was an eye candy etc etc etc.
So here is wishing Runa Laila a Very Happy Birthday.
