Mr India (1961) was produced and directed by G P Sippy. The movie had Kamal Jeet,Geeta Bali, Helen, Praveen Paul, I. S. Johar, Hari Shivdasani etc in it.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fifth song from the movie.
This song is sung by Rafi. The song is lip synced by I S Johar who is seen playing hide and seek with a police official (I am unable to identify the actor playiing the policeman). In the course of the song, I S Johar dons various disguises but he does not seem particularly interested in actually giving the policeman the slip. And as the song comes to an end, he gets caught by the policeman, and rather easily too.
Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist. Music is composed by G S Kohli.
The video of this song has one extra stanza vis a vis the audio link of the song. And I find that the lyrics of the video seem to have been garbled as a few places, apparently because the censors objected to certain words. No such censoring of the audio version has been done. For instance, the audio version has the sentence “jahaan tann ko beche naari” (where women sell their bodies”. The word “Tann” (body) has been garbled in the video version to make that sound like “mann” (soul). 🙂 “jahaan man ko beche naari”, how very interesting. 🙂 Indian Film censors those days was quite overzealous, though only selectively. In another song of 1961, then had objected on the lyrics of a song that talked of drinking liquor. While the audio of the song remained uncensored, the video versio of the song had the word “liquor” replaced by “Chai” (tea). Here is that other song that was targetted by the censors those days.
