“Kaanoon”(1943) was produced by A R Kardar. The movie had Shahu Modak, Mehtab, A Shah, Gajanan Jagirdar, Badri Prasad, Ulhas, Nirmala etc in it.
One song from this movie has been discussed in the past.
Here is the second song from “Kanoon” (1943). This song is sung by Shyam Kumar and Suraiyya. This is a delightful song to listen to. The song talks about the fact that “jawaani” (youth) is temporary and so one should make the most of it instead of not enjoying it and later repenting.
D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad and this music is a surprisingly lively composition for a song of 1943.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

aaye jawaani
jaaye jawaani
jaake phir na aaye
aaye jawaani jaaye jawaani
jaake phir na aaye
chidiyon ne chug liya khet ko
jaat khada pachhtaaye
chidiyon ne chug liya khet ko
jaat khada pachhtaaye
kaho ye jhooth baat hai
uhoon
to bas phir pi lo kha lo
jawaani ke gunn ga lo o
jawaani ke gunn ga lo o
jawaani ke gunn ga lo o
jawaani ke gunn ga lo o
aaye jawaani jaaye jawaani
jaake phir na aaye
chidiyon ne chug liya khet ko
jaat khada pachhtaaye
kaho ye jhooth baat hai
uhoon
to bas phir pi lo kha lo
jawaani ke gunn ga lo
jawaani ek mauj ka naam
jawaani ek mauj ka naam
ke jismein nahin hosh ka kaam
ke jismein nahin hosh ka kaam
kaho ye jhooth baat hai
uhoon
to bas phir pi lo kha lo
jawaani ke gunn ga lo
jawaani mein ankhiyaan bhi bolen
dil ke bhed nigaahen kholen
dekhne
haaye dekhne waale dagmag dolen
dekhne waale dagmag dolen
kaho ye jhooth baat hai
uhoon
to bas phir pi lo kha lo
jawaani ke gunn ga lo
aaye jawaani jaaye jawaani
jaake phir na aaye
aaye jawaani jaaye jawaani
jaake phir na aaye
chidiyon ne chug liya khet ko
jaat khada pachhtaaye
chidiyon ne chug liya khet ko
jaat khada pachhtaaye

Atul,
I believe the singer should be Shyam Kumar who acted generally as a negative character in many films. If I recall Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh correctly, Shyam Kumar never sang for himself, it was always playback for others. On the other hand the dashing hero Shyam of the late 40s until 1951 was not a singer at all. I mention this because the confusion primarily arose because many sources described the singer (and actor) Shyam Kumar simply as Shyam.

Yes, I meant Shyam the villain. I am aware of the difference between the two Shyams, but I was not sure whether the singer Shyam was called Shyam or Shyam Kumar. Now I have included the word Kumar with his name.
