“Chhaliya”(1973), though a later offering as compared to the well known “Chhaliya”(1959), has ended up becoming an obscure movie. “Chhaliya”(1973) was produced by Sudesh Raj Gupta and directed by Mukul Dutt. The movie had Navin Nischol, Shatrughan Sinha, Nanda, Helen, Jairaj, Sajjan, Asrani, Manmohan, Bhagwan, Rajendra Nath, Sujit Kumar etc in it. The makers of this movie had bet “wisely” as they had signed up Navin Nischol in lead role, who looked the next big star ( apparently following in the foot steps of Rajesh Khanna). The fact that that film fell flat at the box office had several side effects. Apart from the fact that Navin Nischol failed to liveup to his early promise was one, and the fact that Nanda’s days as a leading lady in Hindi movies(that was looking up after the suceess of “The Train” in 1970) came to a grinding halt.
“Chhaliya”(1973) had music by R D Burman, who was ruling the roost among music directors. He created some wonderful compositions in this movie which have sadly been forgotten with time.
The movie had six songs in it. Four of these songs have already been discussed in the past.
Here is the fifth song from “Chhaliya”(1973). This song is an archtypical cabarat song. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Helen. Navin Nischol, Macmohan etc. are also visible in the picturisation. Looking at the dress (?) of Helen, which is basically a pyjama with one leg missing, one can assume that the dress designers of those days had a rather easy time, especially when it came to designing dresses for cabarat dancers in Hindi movies. 🙂
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman, as mentioned above.
