“Gareebi”(1949) was directed by Ramchandra Thakur for Ranjit Movietone, Bombay. the social movie had Geeta Bali, Jairaj, Nirupa Roy, P Kailash, Usha Kiran, Baanke Bihaari, Rmesh Thakur, M K Hasan, Bhupat rai, Tarabai, Jairam, Jawahar Kaul etc in it.

The movie had eight songs in it. Two songs from the movie have been covered in the blog. Those songs were discussed as far back as in 2011.

Now, after the passage of more that six years, here is the third song from “Gareebi”(1949) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Rafi. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Only the audio of this rare song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

The audio is not clear and I have not been able to get the lyrics right to my satisfaction. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections in the lyrics as applicable.

Song-Kisi se hamne ye poochha (Gareebi)(1949) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

kisi se hamne ye poochha
mohabbat kis ko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain
kisi se hamne ye poochha
mohabbat kis ko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain

ada se muskuraaye
dil pe ik bijli gira daali
ada se muskuraaye
dil pe ik bijli gira daali
dil pe bijli gira daali
tadap kar yoon kaha dil ne
tadap kar yoon kaha dil ne
muhabbat isko kehte hain
tadap kar yoon kaha dil ne
muhabbat isko kehte hain

ye kaisa dard hai dil mein
jo dil ko achha lagta hai
ye kaisa dard hai dil mein
jo dil ko achha lagta hai
jo dil ko achha lagta hai
yahi wo dard hai dard e
yahi wo dard hai dard e
mohabbat jisko kehte hain
yahi wo dard hai dard e
mohabbat jisko kehte hain
kisi se hamne ye poochha
mohabbat kis ko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain
nazar ka teer maara aur boley
isko kehte hain
