In this post I present a ‘Qawwali’ song from the movie ‘Shaan-E-Khudaa-1971’.
This movie had made its debut on the blog on 12.04.2021 with its song ‘dil ki lagi bujhaa de ajmer waale khwaajaa’, which was also a ‘qawwali’ song.
The post then came during the period when the holy month of ‘Ramadan’ had started on the same day.
This time when I am presenting the second song, again a ‘qawwali’ from this movie the month of ‘Ramadan’ has reached its end and people are celebrating ‘Eid’ today.
Actually, I was longing to share this song ever since I listened to it recently, but some planned and un-planned travel that I have to take delayed this today’s post.
Today’s song is sung by Mohd Rafi and Hemlata and the picturisation of this song, which is a devotional or ‘sufi qawwali’ song, shows (and describes) the various places of ‘holy shrines’ in our country India.
The song speaks about the holy power of these devotional places and how devotees respect and trust and worship these places to have solutions for the problems in their lives.
Mainly it shows the actress (Azra?) in the movie (I guess) visiting the shrines for the treatment of her husband who is suffering from some serious disease (hope I am correct).
As mentioned above the song is sung by Mohd Rafi and Hemlata. Rafi Saab as usual has sung this song with his ‘soul’ and listening to this song repeatedly gave me ‘goose pimples’ many times. Hemlata has supported well in this song but I was unable to note down the correct words at many places from the parts her voice appears in this song.
I have marked such places with a (?) and I request knowledgeable readers to provide correct words there please.
This song seems to be a duet version and may be it is appearing in the movies at different times.
I also find a separate Rafi version of this song which I have noted separately. Portion of this version does not appear in the duet version. The duet version is noted separately containing Rafi Saab’s parts included in this as nowhere Rafi and Hemlata’s voices are singing this song together.
Here is a brief about this movie.
‘Shaan-E-Khudaa-1971’ directed by Nanubhai Vakeel for ‘Vanita Films, Bombay’.
It had Azra, Rajpal, Chandra Mohan, Benazir, Roshan, Salam, Sukhbir Kaur, Anwari Bai, Munshi Munakka, Wazeer Muhammad Khan, Uma Dutt, Shaukat Azmi, Sujata, Master Sunil, Master Dabbu, Baby Deepali and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.05.1971.
‘Shaan-E-Khudaa’ had seven songs written by A.H. Rizvi, S.H. Bihari, Kaifi Azmi and a traditional song.
Music for this film was composed by Iqbal Qureshi.
Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Hemlata, Krishna Kalle and Shankar-Shambhu had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Lyrics for the today’s song are written by Kaifi Azmi. Music is composed by Iqbal Qureshi.
Let us now enjoy this wonderful divine song sung by Mohd Rafi and Hemlata on the occasion of EID that is being celebrated today.
I personally believe that ‘prayers to god’ or ‘singing praising the god’ has the same divine effect irrespective of religion and languages. This song too touches our heart and refreshes the soul (I feel so).

Thank you for posting a qawwali on the occasion of Eid, Avinash ji. I have heard this qawwali for the first time. Yes it has location footage of Haji Malang, Ajmer sharif Dargah and Hazarat Nizamuddin at Delhi etc. For Madina and Majid-e-Nabawi, some photos are used. The mukhda of the qawwali is ‘Yeh rauza yeh rauze ki shaan’. ‘Rauza’ is a persian/Arabic word for ‘mazar’ or tomb. Its not talking of ‘roza’ but the various tombs of ‘Auliya’, which are shown in the video footage.

Thanks Nahm ji for your feedback. Yes, I had noted Rafi Saab singing the word ‘rauza’ but I didn’t checked it on ‘rekhta’ and that was my mistake. I sincerely appologize for that.
Actually I had forwarded the link of this song to my ‘close friend’ and had even given a call to him to clear this, but later on it slipped and as ‘Ramadan’ was under progress I did not disturbed him again and meanwhile sent this write-up. Thanks for the correct word and its meaning.
I would request Atul ji to kindly correct the word in the title of the post and the lyrics in the post please.

Just saw and read this post.
The song has been shot on location at Kalyan’s Haji Malang Baba Dargah. Atleast the external shots are of the dargah. We can see the hills where the dargah is situated from the trains that come into Kalyan Station. Recently I learnt that the fort on that hill was built in the 7th century and the dargah is around 300 years old.
I have vague memories of my dad telling me that people of all religions used to visit the dargah and it was almost on the lines of Ajmer Sharif in terms of people across religions praying there.
I would love to have more knowledge on these places of worship

You really do know the Haji Malang Dargah. I have visited it as a young child, but not since. It involved a lot of steps to climb and reach. I know once upon a time it was very famous and revered. With time, the reverence is also not the same.
There are a lot of these places, shrines and tombs all over the sub-continent. Which are ‘Auliya’ tomb, we cant judge, Almighty Allah knows best.
‘Auliya” also known as ‘buzurgaan-e-deen” are ‘wali-sifat’ persons. Or ‘Wali’, as some would say. Haji Ali dargah is said to be one of the genuine ones. There are many famous one near the vicinity of Mumbai. Other famous one is near Pune and Vishal gadh near Kolhapur.
Haji malang is no more a prominent place, as I have not heard anyone mentioning it even though I travel to Kalyan frequently. Now if you visit the near vicinity of it, you will see that the whole area is concrete jungle, as ‘Kausa’ has reached the Haji Malang Tekdi.
You have reminded me of childhood visits to such places and also the fate of ancient forts in our area.

I have not visited the dargah. Whatever I know is from what my father has told me. He had visited the shrine sometime in the 60s, as a newcomer to Mumbai.
But the typical formation of the hill where the dargah is, is unmistakeable.
And my father used to talk to me about all these places- Ajmer Sharif, Haji Ali in Mumbai & Haji Malang in Kalyan
I had recently gone to Kolhapur, but no one guided me to the dargah that you are speaking of.
