“Rustam e Baghdad”(1963) was produced by Bunny Talwar and Kirpal R Mirchandani and directed by B J Patel for Hanna Films, Bombay. The movie had Dara Singh, Chandrashekhar, Vijaya Chaudhary, Shakila Bano Bhopali, Polson, Bhagwan, Rajan Kapoor, Shashimala, Shri Bhagwan, H D Shukla, Devchand, Maya, Sumitra, Zebunnisa, Prince Kumali etc in it.
“Rustam e Baghdad”(1963) had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from “Rustam e Baghdad”(1963) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.
The song is picturised on Shakeela Bano Bhopali (I guess) and Chandrashekhar. Shakeela Bano Bhopali tended to play a qawwaal in Hindi movies and figured only in qawwaalis (mostly in Asha Bhonsle’s voice) but in this movie, she was given a full fledged role as the second lead. Chandrashekhar who also figures in the picturisation, has nothing to do except dance, and he manages to do a surprisingly competent job of it.
