Rajendra Kumar was known as Dilip Kumar clone, and he was quite a successful one at that too. In fact, Rajendra Kumar was popularly known as “Jubilee” Kumar because most of his movies used to celebrate at least Silver jubilee (25 weeks in a movie hall) and even more.

I have posted over a hundred songs of different natures in this blog so far. Songs of 1970s that I am posting were those that influenced me a lot, as I was in my formative years during those days. The influence of R D Burman as music director was something that needed to be experienced. Most of his songs just left people spell bound.

Rajesh Khanna was just beginning his bull run as a superstar in late 1960s. Safar was one of the earlier movies of that time. That era coincided with an even bigger bull run begun by Kishore Kumar as a singer and R D Burman as music director. But the shape of things to come could not have been predicted from this movie. Here Mukesh sings for Feroz Khan ( yes, this Rajesh Khanna movie had Feroz Khan too ) and Kalyanji Anandji scores the music. One year later, it would all be about Rajesh Khanna, Kishore Kumar and R D Burman in a Rajesh Khanna movie.

The tune is typically O P Nayyar, and the storyline is tailormade for Shammi Kapoor. But Shammi Kapoor was not available to act in all the movies. Movie makers those days had Shammi Kapoor clones to choose from. One was the tall and dashing Joy Mukherjee, and the other was the pint sized Vishwajeet.
