When R D Burman was given the job of music direction in a Shammi Kapoor movie called “Teesri Manzil”, many eye brows were raised, including Shammi Kapoor’s, but once the songs were recorded and picturised, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that a great star was born among music directors, one who would rewrite music direction in Bollywood movies for the next decade or so.

Rafi has sung songs of many genres. When it came to drunkard songs, he began to sing such songs in 1960s. Most of these drunk songs tended to be sung for Raj Kumar,but he sang such songs for other actors too.

This movie “Brahmachari” reminds me so much of “Mr. India”, or rather, “Mr. India” should remind me of “Brahmachari” considering that “Brahmachari” was released two decades earlier.

“Kati Patang” is a movie that is teeming with great songs. I have already posted a few of them (three of them to be precise), but I am not done with the songs from this movie. There are still many great songs from this movie that are yet to be posted.

These days I am enjoying lisening to Rafi songs picturised on Shammi Kapoor. They are so energetic and uplifting that listening to them regularly must become a habit with everyone.

Badan pe sitaare lapete huye

For a long time, I have been confused between this song and the song “aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke charche har zubaan par”. There was much in common between these songs. Both songs were sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan were the music director in both cases.
