Aaja aaja main hoon pyaar tera

Posted on: January 14, 2009

When R D Burman was given the job of music direction in a Shammi Kapoor movie called “Teesri Manzil”, many eye brows were raised, including Shammi Kapoor’s, but once the songs were recorded and picturised, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that a great star was born among music directors, one who would rewrite music direction in Bollywood movies for the next decade or so.

R D Burman introduced a new kind of music the likes of which had not been heard in Bollywood, and he took Bollywood by storm.

Rafi, the old faithful voice of Shammi continued, and a new dimension was added in the form of Asha Bhonsle’s voice. If people thought that Asha Bhonsle had developed her singing style with O P Nayyar and no more refinement was likely in that voice, people found Asha Bhobnsle singing in an entirely new and improved style.

Anyone who listens to this song will agree that it is a very difficult song to sing. But both the singers have sung this song so outstandingly well.

Here is this song “aaja aaja main hoon pyaar tera” which all of a sudden raised the bar for the singers and music directors as far as Bollywood music was concerned.

Song-Aaja aaja main hoon pyaar tera (Teesri Manzil) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman

I have always enjoyed this song, but I have to tell you this – my friend borrowed this DVD from me and her children have dubbed this song the “fever” song, because of the way Rafi’s and Asha’s voices vibrate and the shaking they do while singing! Now we all call this the fever song!

@Lalitha: that is hilarious!

Performed on Shammi ji and Asha ji. This song made doubly more attractive to watch by their electric dancing.

As pointed by you , a real difficult song to sing . See and listen in what a nice way old war horses , Rafi Sahib and Asha Tai performed so fabulously under the then relatively novice RDB .
