I have been posting the songs of “Sargam” (1950) here these days. It is while posting these songs that I am discovering these songs for the first time. What wonderful songs these are ! And I am also surprised at the number of such songs. There are at least a dozen such songs, and all of them just mind boggling. And it is just as mind boggling to realise that this movie has been forgotten today.

“Jaagriti” (1954) was an idealistic movie that was produced just a few years after Indian independence when people of India were in an idealisting and nation building mode. Several songs of this movie went on to become iconic songs. It is in this movie that we have songs like “Aao bachhon tumhen dikhaayen jhaaki Hindustaan ki” and “De di hamen aazaadi bina khadg bina bhaal”.

I have not posted a song composed by Ganesh in this blog for quite some time. The songs composed by Ganesh, though of high quality are very difficult to find. Even then, I have managed to find and post almost 25 % of all the Ganesh songs that he composed. And that makes this blog perhaps the best place to look for songs composed by Ganesh. And I did notice that a search string “Pyarelal’s brother Ganesh” was used by someone to arrive at this blog.

I have heard about the movie “Gaban” (1966), mainly because of the song “ehsaan mere dil pe tumhaaraa hai doston”, which has gone on to become an iconic song, though this song is almost a non event in the movie itself.

“Dosti” (1964) was a simple movie with a simple uncomplicated message, and the message went home. This small budget movie with no stars (which was the first movie of Rajshree productions) went on to become a hit movie.

Here is a song which sounds like it belongs to a Shammi Kapoor movie. And indeed it has almost all the ingredients of a Shammi Kapoor movie except the great man himself. The movie is “Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena” (1962) which appeared on the scene almost in the same era as “Junglee”. This movie has Joy Mukherji and Sadhana in lead roles.
