When I look at the roles of lead actresses of Hindi movies, I find that the ability to cry is an essential quality that they must possess. So I cannot help but feel that most actresses who entertained hopes of a successful careers in Hindi movies needed to have lots of practice of crying. In other words, it always helped if they came from families that offered them lots of opportunities to hone this skill. So does it mean that most actresses in Bollywood had unhappy childhood ? Shudder !

I became aware of this movie called “Magroor” (1950) thanks to its review by Memsaab. This is a delightful movie, and it is worth watching even for someone like me who cannot normally sit through the length of an entire Hindi movie.

I have been posting songs from “Anmol Ghadi” (1946) these days. So far, all the songs posted by me (all 8 of them) have been centred around Noorjahaan and Surendra, but this movie als had Suraiyya in it. And naturally, she too sang songs in this movie.

Ab kaun hai meraa

“Anmol Ghadi” (1946) was the biggest hit of the year 1946 and this movie in fact must be regarded as a landmark movie in the Hindi movie industry. The movie had Noorjehaan, Surendra and Suraiyya in lead roles. These three in fact sang their own songs. There was no dearth of songs in this movie. There were as many as 12 songs in it and they all became very popular.
