I have discussed as many as four songs from “Adaalat” (1958) and I was surprised to receive the lyrics of this song from Prakashchandra. When I checked up, I found that this well known song from “Adaalat” (1958) was actually missing from the blog.

“Saawan Ki Ghataa” (1966) was a movie directed by Shakti Samant. I find that the screenplay of this movie was written by Gulshan Nanda, the leading Hindi novelist of those days. So it leads me to think that this movie could well be based on a novel by Gulshan Nanda. Incedentally, movies like “Kati Patang”, Jheel Ke Us paar” etc are some of the movies based on Gulshan Nanda’s novels.

Most songs discussed in this blog are movie songs which were included in the movie when that movie was released. But there are some cases in which songs, even though they were recorded as part of the movie ended up getting excluded from the movie for one reason or the other. In some cases, the movie makers decided to exclude the song, in some cases, censors ordered the exclusion of the song, and in one case, this was done one week after the movie was released !

Here is a wonderful romantic duet from the past which is easily one of the timeless classics from the golden era of Hindi movie music. Listening to this song magically transports us back to the era half a century ago, when melody was king, lyrics were given their due and songs were created like monuments , not like disposal cans.

Sajjad Hussain, regarded as the only original music director of Hindi movies, was a temperamental genius who would brook no interference in his creative work and leave movies in a huff if he felt that his producers were interfering in his work. In Hindi movies, songs were traditionally recorded twice- once for the picturisation and once for the audio (for the record company). The audio records were typically released prior to the release of the movie.
