Today’s song is from a film with a funny title – Dhobi Doctor-1954.
During my initial days of career in the Pharmaceutical industry, this was the name we used for a Fake doctor or a R.M.P doctor, practicing in villages and small towns or the poor areas of cities. The joke on them was that they would wash the patients clean of their money instead of treating their disease ! Hindi film industry is replete with comical film titles galore. A sample of some film titles….Aaja Nachle, Aadam ka janam, Aag laga do sawan ko, Awara Paagal Deewana, Bombai ki Billi, Banana Brothers, Chhatri Chor, Chaar Chakram, Chillar party, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Faaltu, Gabroo, Ghar mein ho sali to poora saal Diwali etc.etc. I stop here because the list will be too long.

Relationship importance, Values’ germination in the youngsters, denouncing social evils and bad habits etc. were the story essentials in many films. #the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #

(Kishore Kumar’s 38th ‘Remembrance Day’ 13th October’2024)
Today 13th October’2024 is the 38th Remembrance Day of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. He was born on 4th August’1929 at Khandwa (now in Madhya Pradesh) and he passed away at the age of fifty-eight only on 13th Octorber’1987 at Bombay (now Mumbai).
On this occasion, as a tribute to him, I will be presenting a few songs (if possible) sung by him. For today’s presentation I will be presenting some lesser-heard or never heard songs of Kishore Kumar from some un-released or obscure movies. However we will start the day with a song from a released film from the year 1952.

Today’s song (in two parts) is from the ‘C’ grade costume film – Al Hilal-1958 aka Judgement of Allah.
My first encounter with the film Al Hilal was when I read that this was the first film in 1935, which was directed by Mehboob Khan. This film had an interesting history too. Mehboob Khan started his acting career with the Imperial Film Company, as an extra. Ardeshir irani was impressed with this young man’s earnestness in work and thought of making a hero in one of his Silent films. At the last minute E. Billimoria was taken as that film’s Hero and Mehboob Khan lost his first chance. When Irani thought of making a Talkie film Alam Ara, he again decided to make Mehboob as its Hero. His costumes were also stitched with his measurements and Mehboob Khan was excited. However, as advised by some experts,an existing popular Hero Master Vithal was taken as its hero and Mehboob lost his second chance. Third time it was decided to make him the hero opposite Sabita Devi for the film Shehar ka Jaadu, but luck played a ball again and a New entrant Motilal was given that role.

“Shesh Naag-1957” was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi for ‘Ajeet Pictures, Bombay’. It was a ‘mythological genre’ movie which was passed by Censor Board on 28.01.1957. Ratibhai Punatar was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie included Nirupa Roy, Shahu Modak, Sulochana, Tiwari, P. Kailash, Trilok Kapoor, Babu Raje, Charubala, Pal Sharma, Uma Khosla, Suryakumar, Manek, Rajrani, Poonam Kapoor, Anil, Moolchand and others.

When one reads their reminisceces about those days, we find that all these decades were vastly different from other decades. Today’s song is from the film ‘Naya Raasta’ (1953).
Today is 19th September, and this is my 14th post in this month already. Before this post, I had written 11 posts continually every day, but I had to break the marathon as the final work on my two new books came up and I had to attend to that. I completed that and work for my 7th book started immediately. Thus, writing posts and working on the books takes up my whole day, coupled with the routine household duties and other jobs. Sometimes I wish I had at least 30 hours in a day !
