Hindi movie Music basically has three major fields, namely singing, lyrics writing and music composition. All these are specialised fields. People who are good in two of these fields can be called musical all rounders.
That way Hemant Kumar was a true musical all rounder. He can be described as a great in music composition as well in playback singing. And that is reflected in this blog too where Hemant Kumar has completed his century of songs as a music director and as a playback singer both. To this date, he is the only artist in the blog to have done so.

I have discussed as many as eight songs from “Naagin” (1954) and all of them are iconic songs. I thought that all the iconic songs from this movie have already been discussed. So it comes as a huge surprise to me to realise that the song “Mann doley mera tann doley” from “Naagin” (1954) has not yet been discussed.

“Mirza Ghalib” (1954) was based on the life of Mirza Ghalib. This movie was a Minerva Movietone production and it was directed by Sohrab Modi. the movie had Bharat Bhushan, Suraiyya, Murad, Durga Khote, Jagdish Sethi, Nigar Sultana, Mukri, Baij Sharma, Kumkum, Sadat Ali, Iftekhar, Roshan etc in it.

“Daaku Ki Ladki” (1954) is an extremely obscure movie by now. This movie was a Harish production movie. It was produced and directed by Harish. The movie had Geeta Bali, Sheikh Mukhtar, Arjun, Mukri, Deepa, Shivraj, Cuckoo, Sankatha Prasad etc in it.

Without detracting one bit from her merit, capability and musico-longevity, I have to admit that I am not a fan of Asha Bhosle in the same manner as I am of Lataji. That said, there are quite a few of Ashaji’s evergreens – some of them lesser known than her racy raunchy numbers – which touch me more or less the same as some of Lataji’s best.
