“Mughal e Azam” (1960) was produced and directed by K Asif. This partially color movie (as used to be the standard description of movies those then) had Prithviraj kapoor, Madhubala, Dilp Kumar, Durga Khote, Nigar Sultana, Ajit, Kumar, Murad, Jillobai, Sheila Dalaya, Vijaylaxmi, S Nazir etc in it.

In February 1958, an Italian song – Nel blu Dipirito di blu (English: In the sky painted blue), popularly known worldwide as ‘Volare Song’ become very popular. The song was written and sung by Domenico Modungno. This song was chosen as Italian entry to the European Song Contest, 1958 where it got 3rd place. The song received two awards at the First Grammy Award, 1959 – (i) Record of the Year and (ii) Song of the Year. Due to its popularity, the song was recorded in many languages such as English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Finnish, Portuguese etc. The song was sung by more than 50 performers all over the world which included some of the greatest names like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Cliff Richard, Gypsy Kings etc. In 1958, Dean Martin included the half version of the song in English for his LP ‘This is Dean Martin’. The combined sales of all versions of the song exceeded 22 million copies worldwide making it one of the all time popular songs. (Source: Wikipedia). Aabhaas Kumar Ganguly, was the third son of Kunjalal Ganguly, the advocate, living in the town of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. Aabhaas was born this day in the year 1929. While at school, he had a very serious interest in theatre and drama, and used to regularly win gold medals for his performances. Plus he had a wonderful voice, and was very much in demand as a singer in family and school/college gatherings. The renowned KL Saigal was his idol. He considered Saigal Sb to be his guru, and would sing only his songs.

One can say, in some ways, it was a letdown. I mean my first meeting in person with Khyati Ben. We had been in email touch prior to that. I was in US, and had made plans to go down to Los Angeles and meet her. For identification purposes, she had sent me her photograph – a most dazzling blonde, with sharp features and attractive eyes, carrying a red rose. As per suggestions from Raja ji (who was also party to the email thread), I had been instructed to wear a trench coat, a felt hat, dark glasses and sporting a fake beard. And yes, also to carry a red rose. That would have been the identification to each other. Then, we had code words also defined for a more certain identification. On seeing the red rose in her hands, I was supposed to approach her and ask the question –“Aasmaan mein kitne sitaare hain?”. And she was supposed to reply with “hoshiyaar, khatre ke har taraf se ishaare hain”. That was how the introduction was planned.

nahm began to contribute lyrics in the blog from 8 feb 2011, about a month after Atif M (the first lyrics contributor in the blog). That made nahm the second regular lyrics contributor for the blog. The first song contributed by her that appeared in the blog was Do dil toote do dil haare (Heer Raanjha)(1970). This was followed by Aap yoon faaslon se guzarte rahe (Shankar Hussain)(1976). The third contribution was Ab to hai yumse har khushi apni (Abhimaan)(1973).
