Children’s Day special today.

Wondrous memories I have – of the special 14th November programs and treats. In Delhi, I remember there used to fun fairs for children.  At the Children’s Park next to India Gate in Central Delhi, there were occasions when Nehru ji would himself be present with the kids for a short while, in the early evenings. I have never been present at such gatherings myself. By the time I would be of the age to understand and enjoy such events, Nehru ji had passed away. But I have seen such events in the newsreels at the cinemas – Nehru ji surrounded by a huge number of children. And I especially remember, he would let fly some white pigeons – a symbol of peace and friendship.

78th Independence day – 15th August, 2024

The nation grows older by one more year on 15th August. And hopefully wiser too. Among the nations formed in 20th century, post world wars scenario, we have indeed come a long way, and hopefully shall grow, by leaps and bounds.

The cultural conflux and amalgamation, is what makes this country what it is, that the world looks up to us for the colourful heritiage, for the values of humanity, for intellectual and literary wealth.

Today’s song is from an almost unknown film Daku Bhupat-1960.

This was a dubbed film, originally made in Telugu as ” Raja Nandini”-1958. The system of spelling the proper nouns in Southern languages is different from most western or North Indian languages. I believe it all depends on the type of alphabet a language has. Some alphabets which are present in Devanagari script languages (like Marathi or Hindi for example) are not present in southern languages. So sounds like T and TH are both spelled as th. Thus Lalita in Hindi becomes Lalitha in south.

Today’s song is from the stunt film Miss Good Night-(1960).

C grade stunt and action films were popular in a section of society, all over India, right from the Silent film era. This type of ” Maar-Dhaad ” films reached the Popularity peak during the 40s and the 50s, but by the beginning of 1961 onwards such films were less popular and within a few years the C grade stunt/action films were a thing of the past.
