‘Khaakaan’ from 1965 is a film I have never heard about before. Given the star cast, with Dara Singh in the lead, it definitely must have been a B grade costume action drama, that probably would have made the rounds of the B cinema circuit, and then went away. This is a song that I have heard on the radio many many years ago, and its melody and memories have remained with me all these years, without really knowing anything about its antecedents. Recently, I discovered this song on YouTube once again, and then found out more about the film and the song itself.

“Neela Aakaash” (1965) is a movie which was produced and directed by Rajendra Bhatia for Kiron Productions. Starcast of the movie included names like Mala Sinha, Dharmendra, Madan Puri, Manorama, Shashikala, Madhvi, Raj Mehra, Sulochana Latkar, Sabita Chatterjee, Mehmood, Mumtaz Begum, Jeevan Kala, Hari Shivdasani etc.

When I saw the lyrics of this song sent to me by nahm, I thought that she had sent this lyrics by mistake. How can this song be not yet posted ? But when I checked up, I found that not only this song, but in fact none of the songs of this movie, namely “Neela Aakash” (1965) have figured in the blog so far. So that makes this song a “How come this song is ot yet posted !” category of song.

Today (19 january) is the date of birth of Kaifi Azmi. To many music lovers of younger generations, he may be a lesser known name, and even to me, he was a “boring” lyricist when I was growing up. Having grown up (hopefully) 🙂 I have come to appreciate Kaifi Azmi better. We have over one hundred Kaifi Azmi songs in this blog and that speaks volumes about the fact that Kaifi Azmi was one of the major contributors in making the Golden era of Hindi movie music what it was, viz a memorable era for music lovers.

This song is a well known song and I believed that this song was already covered in the blog but I discover that I was wrong. That way, this song belongs to the popular category of the blog, viz “What ! This song was not yet posted !” category. 🙂
