When it comes to train songs, S D Burman and R D Burman ruled the roost. Right from “Solva Saal” in 1957 till “Zamaane Ko Dikhaana Hai” in 1981, I can count nearly a dozen or so wonderful train songs composed by the two Burmans.

I as a kid grew up reading “Chandamama”, a children’s magazine that was published from Madras in many Indian languages. They had interesting stories from eclectic sources viz mythology, arabian tales, folk tales, etc. They also used to have stories preaching the values of peaceful co existence among joint family members. In other words, they preached just the opposite of what is preached in Ekta Kapoor’s serials now a days.

Ek haseena thi ek deewaana thha

“Karz” of 1980 was a musical blockbuster. Though many fans were not aware about it, but most tunes in that movie were lifted from western tunes, including the most popular ” meri umar ke nauzawaanon”. Of course, all that plagiarism did not affect the popularity of Bollywood songs of this , or any other movies, in any ways.

Here is a nice song from a 1980 small budget movie called “Ek baar phir”. Most people involved in this song were relatively small time artists. An upcoming Anuradha Paudwal of pre T-series vintage was the female voice and the male voice was Bhupinder Singh, who was around for two decades but barely got to sing in too many movies. The lyricist was a little known Vinod Pande and the music director was an equally out of work Raghunath Seth.
