“Pehle Aap” (1944) is a movie that came as a critic juncture in the annals of Hindi movie music and it determined the course of action that Hindi movie music was to take. Songs of this movie as well as the other movies with music by Naushad were based on folk music. It was a major departure from earlier music which was based on classical rag based music. Music lovers loved this folk music based music. The classical music based songs too continued to be composed but it became clear that the key to win the public over was through folk music based songs.

“Anban” (1944) is as obscure a movie as a movie ever can be. Hardly any information is available about this movie now. This movie was directed by N Lahiri. Its star cast included names like Shah Nawaz, David Abraham, Mubarak , Pahari Sanyal, Nargis , Jagirdar , Shobhana Samarth etc.

There are rare sings that one can come across just by stumbling against them while browsing sites like YT. But there are rare songs that cannot be discovered this way. You can find them only when you specifically look for them by the name of the movie, lyricist etc. And such songs may not even be available on YT, that is how rare they are.

Ek yaad kisi ki yaad rahi

“Shamaa” (1946) is a movie about which very little information is available and digging up information about this movie is a time consuming process. And irritatingly, the little information that turns up is incorrect as well. So I decided to dig up my own comments from the two earlier songs of this movie that I had discussed in the past. From those comments, I see that this movie has Mehtab and Rehana in this movie.
