Aaja kahin door chalen

Posted on: October 16, 2011

There are various ways by which I come to know about songs that I am not aware of. One of these ways is through the farmaishes of songs by readers. Seeing the backlog of pending farmaishes, it is obvious how much knowledge I have gained about songs that I knew nothing about. 🙂

My curiosity is especially aroused when the farmaishes pertain to rare songs that few people know about. so when some readers who actually know about these songs (having heard them decades ago) mention these songs, I feel that I too need to search for these songs are listen to them.

There was one recent farmaish given by a reader R Rajamony who wanted me to discuss a couple of rare songs from “Pehle Aap” (1944). When I checked up, these songs were so rare that they were actually missing from YT. These are just the kinds of songs that I love to discuss here.

So here is this rare duet from “Pehle Aap” (1944). It is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali and Shyam. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Only the audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us how and on whom this song was picturised. In the meanwhile, enjoy this lovely duet from the earlier years to Hindi movies. It is a wonderful song to listen to. I am sure this song was a big rage during 1940s.

aaja kahin door chalen
aaja kahin door chalen
duniyaa ki aankhon se
haay re haay
chhup chhup pyaar karen
duniyaa ki aankhon se
haay re haay
chhup chhup pyaar karen
aaja kahin door chalen

tumhe kis ka darr hai
tumhe kis ka darr hai
nainon mein base tum ho
haay re haay
dil mein tera ghar hai
nainon mein base tum ho
haay re haay
dil mein tera ghar hai
tumhe kis ka darr hai

jisne ye pyaar kiyaa

usko maar diyaa
jisne pyaar kiyaa

jab tak saans chaley
haay re haay
naam japoon teraa

tu saajan mera

Atul ji,

The line with (?) is correct with a minute correction.

‘tum(?) saajan mera’
should read

‘tu saajan mera’

Atul ji,
Thanks for considering my request for the two songs from Pahele Aap. Radio SEAC Ceylon ( SEAC for South East Asia Command ) the forerunner of Radio Ceylon ,and Sri Lanka B/c Corp, and also the Foujyon ke Liye prog of AIR of the yesteryears used to broadcast the songs of the Hindi films of the 40’s in those days. These songs can never be heard anymore. Nuashad songs do not die because of their tunes and the tuning of the instruments to the voice of the singer.and the instrumental interludes are a feast to the ears.
May I suggest you for a similar discussion on the songs from Naushad films Jeevan (1943) and Geet (1940). These films have a single song from each in the YT
Forgive me for taking up your time.
