Manna Dey was an outsider as far as singing mainstream songs were concerned. Unlike other singers, he was reduced to singing unusual songs viz songs for lesser characters in the movie, viz comedian etc. Difficult songs, unlikely to get popular with lay public viz semi classical songs were also given to him to sing.
