Today’s post by Sadanandji has triggered this post. The song in his post was ‘inspired’ by a Sinhalese pop song of the seventies, which most of us have heard and I am sure have sung with ‘our own made-up-lyrics’.

This song shows how beautiful a simple sari-clad lady can look. Post this every actress worth her name was ready to drape a saree and romance the camera on the condition that it gave them as much fame as the lady in this Sky-Blue saree achieved. Of course, through the 100+ years of Indian cinema, a saree was considered sign of a Bharatiya (to be understood as domesticated) Nari. There were the odd songs or situations where the lady used to get wet & the wet-saree would make the villain lust after her or the hero would get passionate with her (depending on who is with the lady in the scene).
