“Bahuraani”(1950) is one of many obscure movies of the past that have been forgotten with time. This movie was directed by s M Yousuf for Harishchandra Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Sulochana Chatterji, Shekhar, Kaushalya, Amar, Yashodhara Ktju, David, Sofia, Ansari, Mumtaz, E Billimoria, Bibi, Lalita Pawar, Gope etc in it.

There is one genre of songs that always has me hooked to it. And that is the qawwali.
I don’t know what exactly it is about the qawwali that has me so – I don’t think it is just one thing. Not just the music, or the lyrics, or the synchronized “clapping”, or the setting – I think it is all of these. The entire package, that fascinates me.

People who love music, never grow up – that is my theory. The logic goes like this. A true music lover will never lose the capacity to be thrilled at hearing a new song, a new melody that is fun or poignant, and touches the heart. If a person does not have this characteristic, then it is difficult for that person to appreciate music. Now, being thrilled at something new is a hallmark characteristic of a child. Hence, people who have this capacity and love music, always have a child’s heart and mind within, and hence they never grow up. QED. 🙂
