#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Taajposhi-1957’. This costume drama was directed by Dwarka Khosla for ‘Zaar Productions, Bombay’. It was produced by Tejnath Zaar. The cast of this movie had Shyama, Ranjan, Shammi, Manju, Maruti, Jeevan, Praveen Pal, Bhagwan Sinha, Kanchanmala, Satish Batra, Gopal Vashishtha, and others. Kammo made a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 29.05.1957.
‘Taajposhi’ has seven songs composed by Bipin-Babul. Three lyricist (Anjum Jaipuri-five songs, Tanveer Naqvi-one song and P.L. Santoshi-one song) shared the lyrics writing for this movie. The singers for this movie are Shamshad Begam, Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhonsle, Talat Mahmood, and S. Balbir.
So far, three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the fourth song from this movie. This is a nice solo song in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. Lyrics are by Anjum Jaipuri and music is composed by Bipin-Babul.

In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Taajposhi-1957’. This movie had made its debut on the blog long back on 03.01.2014. No songs from this movie were posted on this blog thereafter; the non-availability of these songs on internet might have been the reason behind this. However, now I noticed that some songs from this movie (if not all) are available on internet. And when I looked for this song which has the voice of Talat Mahmood, and found that it is available, I am taking this opportunity to present it here.
This song is a duet song in the voices of Asha Bhonsle and Talat Mahmood.

Today’s song is from the costume/stunt film ‘Jungle King’ (1959). The film was made by Artists United, Bombay (the name reminds me of the famous Hollywood company ‘United Artists’). It was produced by a group calling itself ‘Four X’ (for reasons best known to them) composed of Morris, Akbar, Asghar and Haider. The director was Masood and the music was by the pair of Bipin-Babul. The cast was very interesting. It consisted of Shaaga, Haaydu (what strange names! Never heard them !!), Sheila Ramani, Anwar, Majnu, Kamal Mehra, Heera Sawant, Tun Tun, Kabban Mirza, Dambe, Doud, Badshah, Rampuri Mehmood, Elephant Laxmi and many others.

Those were the days, I am sure Atul ji would be remembering with relish. Or may be, he may himself not be believing the pace that was the norm in those days, This week, 10 years ago saw a whopping 46 songs posted. Raja, one of the regulars of this blog needs no introduction. An enthusiastic blogger, who recently organised a get together of the regulars of this blog at his residence in Bangalore is a great fan of public tarnsport and he misses no opportunity on availing public transport. He fondly remembers his stay in New Delhi three decades ago when there used to be double decker buses in Delhi.
