In this article, I have taken up for discussion the tragic story of the first super star of the Marathi stage and films whom I had followed during his rise in Marathi stage and films in my younger days. He was stated to be the highest paid actor – both for stage and films – during 1960s and 70s. A series of his Marathi stage plays, and films brought him stardom and a massive fan following. He also worked in two major Hindi films as second lead actor during his period of stardom. However, he could not handle his sudden adulations and glamour. The result was that he became arrogant, unprofessional and finally alcoholic. In 1983 onwards after reforming himself, his stage career was on the pick up when he suddenly passed away. The name of that actor was Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar.

Six songs were posted on 13.08.2010 from six movies viz. ‘Mela-1948’, ‘Kohinoor-1960’, ‘Bandini-1963’,‘Shaheed-1965’, ‘Daadi Maa-1966’, and ‘Aankhon Aankhon Mein-1972’ in chronologically ascending order.
A good variety of popular song, including musical gems were covered on that day.

I have said in the past that even the lesser known/obscure songs of the golden era movies were wonderful songs, in case we care to dig them up and listen to them again.

I have mentioned the fact that most people (at least I) are only aware of the more popular songs from a movie and they often miss out on some real gems that the lesser known songs of these movies often turn out to be.

Usko nahin dekha hamne kabhi

“Maa” (mother) plays a very important role in Bollywood movies. A good son is supposed to be the one who stands by his Maa and a bad son is one who leaves her.
