Aankhon aankhon mein baat hone do

Posted on: August 13, 2010

In early 1970s, Hindi movie songs were becoming daring and we had many songs in those days where the lyrics were far too direct and to the point, instead of beating about the bush.

Here is a direct action song from “Aankhon Aankhon Mein” (1972), where Rakhi (of all the actresses) comes on hard at Rakesh Roshan and Rakesh Roshan advises restraint, much to the chagrin of Rakhi.

Here is this lovely seduction song from “Ankhon Aankhon Mein” (1972) which is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Rakesh Roshan and Rakhi. This is a kind of song that was hugely popular in its days, and more so with youngsters like me.

I loved the song just by listening to its audio, and I have watched the picturisation of the song only just now, after the passage of nearly four decades.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

It has been pointed out by Raja in one of his guest posts that Rakesh Roshan aped Rajesh Khanna’s mannerisms, and I too can notice it here in this song.

Song-Aankhon Aankhon mein baat hone do (Aankhon Aankhon Mein) (1972) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
mujhko apni baanhon mein sone do
naa
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
haan
mujhko apni baanhon mein sone do
shaadi ho jaane do
shaadi ho jaayegi
pahle meethe sapnon mein khone do
na na
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
mujhko apni baanhon mein sone do
shaadi ho jaane do
shaadi ho jaayegi
pahle meethe sapnon mein khone do
na ji
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do

haan aan aan
man kaa panchhi dole
achchhaa
preet ki boli bole
baat badhegi aage
lekin haule-haule
kyun
man kaa panchhi dole
haan haan
preet ki boli bole
arre baat badhegi aage lekin haule-haule
kab tak intazaari
umr padi hai saari
dil ko zaraa dil mein samone do
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
mujhko apni baanhon mein sone do
shaadi ho jaane do
arre shaadi ho jaayegi
pahle meethe sapnon mein khone do
na na na na na
aankhon-aankhon mein baat
kyaa samjhi

pahle bhi barkhaa thi
thi
to kyaa huaa
par aise kahaan thi
achhaa
haan aan aan
pahle bhi barkhaa thi
aisi na bhali thi
phool bani hai ab tu
pahle band kali thi
pahle bhi barkhaa thi
haan
aisi na bhali thi
phool bani hai ab tu
pahle band kali thi
dil mein aag lagi hai
dil ki aag bujhegi
moti pahle nath mein pirone do
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
arre
mujhko apni baanhon mein sone do
shaadi ho jaane do
shaadi ho jaayegi
pahle meethe sapnon mein khone do
na ji
aankhon-aankhon mein baat hone do
baat hone do
baat hone do
hmm hmm hmm

“Aankhon, aankhon mein” presents to the listener an interesting divergence of interests of the man and the woman. (Another clinching proof for the Mars and Venus theory! ). They are both in a barn-like place and the woman, Rakhee, is dressed only in a man’s shirt, a few sizes too long for her. One can guess it has rained, the girl has got all wet, and she has to change in dry clothing. And the hero, Rakesh Roshan, offers her his shirt. Hormones may have been raging, but all what the hero wants to do is to engage in an eye-to-eye chat. Goodness! The heroine is perhaps a little sleepy and she wants to sleep- in his arms. I do not know what happened at the end of the song, the possibilities are endless…!

Haha ! I do not think we should read literally into the lines. We need to read between the lines. 😀 Rakesh Roshan tells her that sleeping in his arms need to be postponed as a post wedding activity. Bur Rakhi is obviously feeling far too “sleepy” to wait till that date.

Yes this Rajesh Khanna–except its not. With Kishore’s voice and those mannerisms one would be forgiven for mistaking him for RK.

Evil step brother and evil-ka-mama, step mother, dead father, kicked out of home & fortune …. that’s all happened to Rakesh Roshan in that movie. Last thing he needed a women who just wanted to sleep 😉

Few days back this movie was on Ztv USA. I can assure you nothing happened at the end 🙂

This was best song from movie. All songs are excellent. Rakhi is good. Rest is OK. Time pass movie.
