(1978 – Solo)

This solo song that got picked for 1978 is a real surprise. Wonderful gem from an obscure film. A song that was heard occasionally, before fading away from radio waves and settling into the quicksand of memories. As I was browsing the list for 1978, this song strummed lost memories of absolutely lovely songs and I had to pick it as tops.

Since even before the films started to talk and sing, music has been an important part of the cinematic experience. Even in the days of silent films, there used to be a live orchestra sitting close to the screen, who would provide music accompaniment and some sound effects to make the proceedings more interesting and to keep engaged the attention of the viewers. I have mentioned it in a previous post that there are two sites that are blatantly copying the contents of this blog for the last several days. I had avoided mentioning these sites by name, hoping that better sense would prevail and I had acted in the manner advised on internet. “Jeevan Rekha” (1974), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog, is one of the more obscure movies. Not much is known about this movie. It was produced by Parshuram J Devnani and directed by N Bhatt. The movie had Chandrashekhar, Ajit, Farida Jalal, K. N. Singh, Pran, Farida Jalal, Tabrez, Jalal Agha, Keshto Mukherjee, Asit Sen, Manmohan etc in it.

Old generation music lovers though were more aware of another movie of the same name that was released in 1960. This movie, viz. “College Girl” (1960) had several nice songs sung by Rafi in it.
