Today is monday, 25 july 2016. I was informed yesterday evening by Peevesie’s mom that this day was the birth anniversary of Sudhir Phadke (25 july 1919- 29 july 2002). She added that she unfortunately was not aware of any songs of him.

When I was growing up as a pre teenager in 1970s, I was into buying and reading all children’s magazines that were then published. It was in “Nandan” magazine that I read about Sitaara Devi. I did not take much interest in her nor was I aware about her except the vague information that she was a Kathak dancer. She was in her 50s at that time which was then considered old so natually I was not interested in knowing about an old lady. 🙂

These songs are generally duets of male and female voices and are my favourites in the genre of light songs. These songs are sometimes also composed in qawaali style. KHUSHBOO (1954) was produced under the banner of Beautiful Pictures and was directed by Rana Indu Shamsher. The cast included Motilal, Shyama, Moti Sagar, Shakila, Kesri, Noor, S K Prem, Amina Bai, Radheshyam etc. I have no idea about the story of the film. I was aware about “Khushboo”(1976), but I came to know about the existence of “Khushboo”(1954) only after I got the mp3 clip of the song under discussion.
