The movie had eleven songs in it. Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from “Khushboo”(1954) to appear in the blog.

This song is sung by Shankar Dasgupta and Asha Bhonsle. Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Lal.

Only the audio of this melancholic remonstrating with the Almighty genre of song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.

kehte hain gyaani dekh le ae

nanga pada hai saamne

jeene ki museebat hai yahaan
marne ka ?? hai ae ae ae

dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai

neela neela hai ye tamaasha aa aa
aa aa aa
dharti par chhaaya hai kuhaasa aa
kya isi kuhaase ke andar
ham dukhiyon ka bhagwaan hai ae ae ae

dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai

hai kaisi duniya re ae ae
cham cham chamken laakhon taare
laakhon taare ae
lekin jab din ko dekho to
taaron ki gali sunsaan hai ae ae ae

dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai

bhagwaan bechaaron ke hain haan
ye duniya bana kar chhupa kahaan
tu chhupa kahaan
jab se din raat bani tab se
tujhe dhoondhh raha insaan hai ae ae ae

dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai

kehte hain tu rakhwaala hai ae ae
tu sab se taaqatwaala hai
rakhwaala hai
kya diya bujhaane hi ke liye
chalta tera toofaan hai ae ae

dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai
dhundhhla dhundhhla aasmaan hai

KHUSHBOO (1954) was produced under the banner of Beautiful Pictures and was directed by Rana Indu Shamsher. The cast included Motilal, Shyama, Moti Sagar, Shakila, Kesri, Noor, S K Prem, Amina Bai, Radheshyam etc. I have no idea about the story of the film. I was aware about “Khushboo”(1976), but I came to know about the existence of “Khushboo”(1954) only after I got the mp3 clip of the song under discussion.

Boat songs, where the singer sings about maajhi(boatman) and the boat were the speciality of S D Burman as a singer and music director. But here, his son R D Burman has created music that his father must have been proud of .

And the voice of Kishore Kumar is nothing short of magical. It has been chronicled that the people present at the time of recording of this song were so much moved by Kishore Kumar’s singing that they cried. Kishore Kumar’s voice full of pain and pathos had that effect on them.
