The movie had eleven songs in it. Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from “Khushboo”(1954) to appear in the blog.

This song is sung by Shankar Dasgupta. Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Lal.

Only the audio of this melancholic song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.

Song-Haay prem kisi se karne par insaan sataaya jaata hai(Khushboo)(1954) Singer-Shankar Dasgupta, Lyrics-Gopal Singh Nepali, MD-Shankar lal

Lyrics

Kya duniya hai
yahaan
prem ko to
bhagwaan
bataaya jaata hai ae ae

haay prem kisi se karne par
insaan sataaya jaaata hai
haay prem kisi se karne par
insaan sataaya jaaata hai

jag goonge
naina milte hai
to shor machaaya jaaata hai ae ae
is paagal duniya mein man ko nahin
tan ko bachaaya jaata hai
jab jiya jiya se milta hai
to kiya chhudaaya (?) jaata hai ae ae
jahaan chaand chamakta hai nanga
wahaan husn chhupaaya jaata hai
haay prem kisi se karne par
insaan sataaya jaaata hai

amrit ke dhokhe mein hamko o o
yahaan zahar pilaaya jaaata hai ae ae
jo pyaar kare use saari umar
zinda hi jalaaya jaata hai
haay prem kisi se karne par
insaan sataaya jaata hai

I was aware about “Khushboo”(1976), but I came to know about the existence of “Khushboo”(1954) only after I got the mp3 clip of the song under discussion.

Boat songs, where the singer sings about maajhi(boatman) and the boat were the speciality of S D Burman as a singer and music director. But here, his son R D Burman has created music that his father must have been proud of .

And the voice of Kishore Kumar is nothing short of magical. It has been chronicled that the people present at the time of recording of this song were so much moved by Kishore Kumar’s singing that they cried. Kishore Kumar’s voice full of pain and pathos had that effect on them.
