‘Raaj Tilak’ (1958) was simultaneously shot in Hindi along with ‘Vanjikottai Valiban’ (1958) in Tamil. Both the films were produced and directed by S S Vasan under the banner of Gemini Pictures. While Gemini Ganesan, Vyjayantimala and Padmini were the common actors for both Hindi and Tamil films. Jagirdar, Bipin Gupta, Lalita Pawar, Durga Khote, Pran, Manmohan Krishna, Agha, Shammi, Meenakshi etc worked only in the Hindi version of the film. C Ramchandra composed the songs for both Tamil and Hindi films. The film was inspired from the novel, ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ (1844) by Alexandre Dumas. The screenplay of the story was written by Ramanand Sagar.

“Saugandh”(1961) was directed by G K Ramu for Hariharan Films, Madras. The movie had Anjali Devi, Gemini Ganeshan, M. N. Nambiar, P. S. Veerappa, M. N. Rajam, Kamala Laxman, M. Saroja, P. S. Venkatachalam etc in it. From the cast, it looks like a South Indian movie dubbed in Hindi and its original songs translated and recorded in Hindi.

“Miss Mary” (1957) was an AVM production movie. It was produced by A V Meiyappan and directed by L V Prasad. The movie had Meena Kumari, Kishore Kumar, Gemini Ganeshan, Jamuna, Achla Sachdev, Jagdish Sethi, Randhir, Om Prakash, Karunanidhi, Maruti, Shivraj, Kesari, Meenakshi etc in it.

In most cases, the reel life that actors essayed on screen had little resemblance with their real lives. I have watched the movie “Miss Mary” and I loved the movie. In fact, I liked its songs as well. The situation under which ths song is sung is quite a romantic situation. Gemini Ganeshan and Meena Kumari are posing as a married couple for the sake of their job,and their employer,Raybahadur feels that they are not spending enough time together as befits a married couple, so locks them up in their bedroom.
