Today 4th October’2025 is the 74th birthday of Singer and actor Shailendra Singh. He was born on 4th October’1952 in Mumbai (Bombay then). Most of us are aware that Shailendra Singh made his debut as a singer with the movie ‘Bobby’ in ‘1973’ which was produced and directed by the great showman of Hindi Cinema Raj Kapoor.

The songs of ‘Bobby’ became very popular then and Shailendra Singh was nominated for the ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ for the song ‘main shaayar to nahin’. But the he didn’t win for that. He got his first acting break for the movie ‘Do Jaasoos – 1975’. (Later on, he acted in his father’s home production ‘Agreement-1980’, and he had done guest appearance in ‘Naukar-1979’ and Mehmood’s – ‘Janta Hawaldar-1979’. He acted in a Bengali film as a hero with Aparna Sen and the movie was ‘Ajosro Dhanyobaad (Many Many Thanks).

Today 12th January 2023 is the sixty-fifth birthday of actor Arun Govil. (He was born on 12th January 1958).

Arun Govil made his debut in Hindi Films in 1977 in the movie ‘Paheli’. However the main hero in this movie was Satyajeet. After ‘Paheli-1977’, he quickly graduated to lead roles in Rajshree Production movies such as ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin’, ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ and ‘Radha Aur Seeta’. All these three movies were released in the year ‘1979’. While ‘Raadha Aur Seeta’ didn’t fare well commercially, ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ was a highly successful movie of its time and ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin’ was also a decently successful movie though not on the scale of ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’.

Strange are the ways of humans. It has its own mechanism of triggering some memory. I was listening to some songs which have no connection, with the one under discussion, then I thought of some other song from the film ‘Krodhi’ that led me to ‘ na fankaar tujh sa tere baad aaya…. Mohammed Rafi tu bahot yaad aaya ‘ (Another ‘Krodhi’) and some how from here I remembered the words and tune of this song, ‘saathhi re gham nahin karnaa ‘ Sounded like a Madan Mohan tune (unused song in the film ‘ Parwana ‘ – jis din se main ne tum ko dekhaa hai).

Experienced music lovers can often identify the music director by listening to the music of a song. Most music directors have their “signature” tunes that differentiate them from others. So most of the time one can identify a tune as being a tune of Naushad, O P Nayyar, Madan Mohan, S D Burman, Roshan, Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc.

The movie was no great shakes. But one still needs to sit up and take notice as far as this movie is concerned. The lead characters ( Kiran Kumar and Radha Saluja, I think) do not deserve to lipsync such a divine song, but they do , and in the process try to pull the song down alongwith the movie.
