Blog Day : 3486 Post No. : 14001

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 61 # Movies with same titles ‘Haar Jeet’
———————————————–—————————————–

Recently our dear Kamath Saab shared the song ‘Mast Pawan Shaakhen Lehraayen’ from the 1940 movie ‘Haar Jeet’. And seeing that post I immediately recalled sharing one song from the film having the same title – ‘Haar Jeet’ and released in 1972. I thought that a song from this ‘Haar Jeet’ (1972) was already posted on the blog. Or maybe it was discussed in some post or mentioned in comments on the blog.

And very co-incidentally few days before the post of Kamath Saab I was browsing the blog for the movies that I was searching in the ‘list-of-songs-by-movies’ but was unable to locate them. At that time I also searched for this movie ‘Haar Jeet’ (1972), but could not locate it.  Simultaneously I succeeded to locate ‘Chaacha Bhateeja’ (1977), which was recently introduced on the blog. The spelling I was searching with was ‘Chacha Bhatijaa’ (like ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ (1953) and ‘Chacha Zindabad’ (1959)). Then I also found the movie ‘Samaapti’ (1949) which I tried to search with wrong 🙂 options like ‘Sampatti’.

When I could not locate the 1972 ‘Haar Jeet’, I tried to search it with different spelling combinations. But could not succeed. So, I concluded that this movie is yet to make a debut on the blog. And if this post, is passed by our Central Board of Post Certification 😉 this movie is going to make a debut on the blog today. This post and the debut of this movie also serves one of my ‘purpose’ of introducing the ‘movies having same title’.

My last post in this endeavor was on 24 Sep 2016 when I shared the song Ye Pyaar Bada Beimaan Hai from the 1951 movie ‘Saudaagar’. After such a long gap, even I have to ask myself – ‘itney din tum kahaan rahe’ 🙂

On our blog we already have ‘Haar Jeet’ from 1940 and also from 1954. Today this ‘third’ ‘Haar Jeet’ of 1972 makes a debut on the blog. This film is directed by CP Dixit for ‘Prithvi Pictures, Bombay’. It was a social movie. In a footnote, HFGK makes a note that this movie was based on the story of K Balachander’s ‘Thamarai Nenjam’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.04.1972. It has Rehana Sultan, Anil Dhawan, Radha Saluja, Mehmood, Madan Puri, Dhoomal, Baby Sarika, Master Alankar, Baby Tabassum, Chintu, Bhola, Jal Khatau, Arun Kumar and Kamini Kaushal in friendly appearance.

The film has four songs as per HFGK Vol- V. All the four songs are written by Anand Bakshi, and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey have lent their voices to the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is a lovely duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar and lip synced on screen by Radha Saluja and Anil Dhawan respectively. Lyrics are by Anand Bakshi, and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Since I had not watched this movie I could not say much about this movie or its songs. I would request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

The song is picturised as a suspense song where Faryal is shown lip syncing this song in an accusatory tone, charging Radha Saluja with murder. Kamal Kapoor is also present to lend a more suspenseful aura to the proceedings.

With this song, “Ek Mutthi Aasmaan”(1973) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Hullo Atulwaasis

I know many followers of this blog are also fans of cricket. I am sure many have their favourite cricket commentators. I will not say Sunil Gavaskar is my favourite commentator but yes, I remember many points that he has made over the years in his commentary. Specially in the period when he had just taken to commentary after his stint as a successful cricketer. This is a point he has made regularly, it can be taken as his advice to young cricketers. He has said and I quote: “always try to reach your milestone run of 50 or 100 with a four or two, never a single.”

He gives an explanation to support this thought “it covers for any short run, or any run which the batsman has scored which has inadvertently been credited to extras.” He further used to advice that in case it was a single that took you to 50 or 100 then it is always good to follow it up with a single or two to cover up for inadvertent wrong markings. It seems this was the advice his coach gave him. It makes sense but must have been true for the age and time when computers had not yet stepped in and replaced manual score cards.

Why did I start my post with the above thoughts? Is today’s post of mine cricket based? No! it is just my first single after my double hundred. I remember I had waited for about six balls oops! 😉 days after my first hundred to write a post or find an occasion to write. But this time around I have found the perfect ball (occasion) to hit a defensive stroke needed for a quick single.

Today our dear Golden Zulfonwali turns a year older. She used to say her name was “Chin Chin Chu” asked us to live life whole heartedly as “Kitty Kelly”. And I hope we have not run out of songs picturised on her considering we have 237 of her songs on the blog already. She must be the only female actor whose songs we have as a separate category on our blog.

Oh yes, I am talking of Helen Khan a.k.a Helen Ann Richardson meaning our very own Helen. She has always had a special place in the hearts of cine-lovers. I have heard people relate how at one time distributors used to force producers and directors to insert a situation so that a dance by Helen could be included in the movie. Also costume designers have related how she used to patiently wait when they used to stitch her various outfits on her body and how she had developed a habit of picking up accessories like hats, feathers, stoles and furs etc on her various trips, things which she later used on her costumes. She has acted in about 700 movies (not sure of the exact number). I have seen her in two Tamil songs too- one with Shivaji Ganesan and other with Rajnikanth in “Billa” (a remake of ‘Don’) where she had the role of Kamini as in the original “Don”

Wishing our darling Helen, a very healthy semi-retired life. I say semi-retired as she makes an appearance on-screen once every few years when she finds roles appropriate to her age. She has danced in a few of them too. Today we have song from the time when she was at her peak. It is a dance where her outfit has fruits stuck in them. Then she has the top of a lampshade for a cap. the song shows her enjoying herself. It is a song where Radha Saluja fantasises that her husband Kiran Kumar is being willingly seduced by Helen in the 1973 film ‘Aaj Ki Tazaa Khabar’. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle, written by Hasrat Jaipuri and music is by Shankar Jaikishan.

Wish you a very Happy Birthday dear Helen.

So another new year is upon us. 2016 is gone and now we are into 2017. Celestially speaking, the earth has completed one full circle round the sun during this period. While the earthlings were busy indulging in their petty activities during this year, the earth covered a distance of 970 millions km at a speed of 107000 kmph which is a speed of 30 km/second !

“Minoo” (1977) was a Hena Films Production. It wa directed by Parshuram and Pushraj. The movie had Baby Moonmoon, Dinesh Thakur, Radha Saluja, Nanditha Thakur, Padma Khanna, Jagdeep, Anwar Hussain, Dulari,Sudhir, Manmauji, Ranjeet Sood etc in it. The story of this movie revolves around a small girl child who was hoping that her mother is going to bring a small brother to play with her. Unfortunately, her mother never returns from hospital to her side. Her father remarries and the girl find it very hard to digest the situation and flees from home. A movie with this kind of story line and that too made on a small budget with no stars did not have a market those days. In fact, a movie like this does not have a market even today and so few people watched this movie.

“Doraaha” (1971) was produced by Ram Dayal and directed by Firoz Chinoy. This movie had an adult theme and that made the movie a “controversial” movie. In other words, the movie audience, media as well as the censors were not mature enough to handle movies of this genre. This movie, as well as other movies of the same genre, viz. “Dastak”, “Chetna” etc suffered from wrong publicity which attracted wrong kind of movie goers to these movies. The movies suffered at the box office. Come to thingk of it, Indian movie audience, media as well as the censors have not yet matured even today, some four decades later, to be able to deal with these kind of movies.

I could have sworn that I had this category called “Jhumka” song in this blog, but I was wrong. I had “ghunghroo” catgory, but not “jhumka” category which is clearly an oversight on my part.

Early 1970s had seen some non mainstream movies made on “bold” subjects. The movie watchers, as well as the movie critics were not mature enough to appreciate these movies. These movies were badly panned by the critics and such movies flopped. “Dastak”, “Chetna” and ‘Do Raahaa” were a few such movies.

This is one of those songs that I loved listening to in my formative years without having much clue about it and then I forgot all about the song once this song stopped playing on radio and loudspeakers.

The movie was no great shakes. But one still needs to sit up and take notice as far as this movie is concerned. The lead characters ( Kiran Kumar and Radha Saluja, I think) do not deserve to lipsync such a divine song, but they do , and in the process try to pull the song down alongwith the movie.
