For some artists, it is never any effort on this blog to search new songs and track numbers posted. Their numbers continue to keep incrementing, just in the process of posting as it is. Some names are really apparent. Rafi Sb, Lata ji, Asha ji, Kishore Da etc. And hence, their milestones continue to occur, as a matter of routine, whatever may be the other compulsions to add new posts. (As I commented in an earlier post, the number of songs of Kishore Da showcased here seems proportionately lesser, only because he made his volumes in the 70s and 80s, and we have on this blog traditionally been focusing on the decades prior to that.)

It is a human nature that most top professionals would think that they are perfect in their professions, be it in the fields of sports or fine arts. Then why do we need coaches, guides, trainers etc ? A few years back, it looked odd to me to know that top seeded professional lawn tennis players have personal coaches. Some of the coaches may not have even played in any of the grand slam tournaments. Even in cricket, some of the teams’ coaches have not been top cricketers in their own national team. Now I know of two maxims in professional sportsman-coach relationship. First, all top players need not be perfect and coaches of these top players need not be top sportsmen in their fields. Second, the best coaches have the wherewithal to extract from the top professionals something more than the perfect which makes a vast difference in closely fought competition. This led me to think why not have a system of coaches (in Indian musical parlance, ‘guru’) for professional singers as well?

I have mentioned in the past that Hindi movie music is like an ocean and that some of gems in this ocean are buried deep and they can be brought up only by diving deep into it.

KAPOOR Khandaan is called the First family of Bollywood, not for nothing !
Starting with Prithwiraj Kapoor till Kareena and Ranbir, all through the generations, they have been shining in the film industry. This is not just because they belonged to the Kapoor khandaan. In film industry, particularly in the acting field, one can not survive for long, if one has no talent or if he is not doing hard work. One’ s ancestry alone is not acceptable to the Indian audience. This has been proved time and again. For example, Raaj kumar, Raj Babbar, Rajendra Kumar or Shashi Kapoor were successful actors, but what happened to their sons ?

The popularity of characters such as Tarzan shows that there is a child within all human beings, no matter how much they grow up physically. The fact that there have been so many movies on the theme of characters like Tarzan and Zimbo means that this theme must have paid off for the makers of these movies.

I am told by my daughter (don’t know how she keeps track of all this in between her tight schedule of finishing her projects etc) that today (15 april 2013) is Hasrat Jaipuri’s birthday. I am sure every one knows a lot about Hasrat Saab’s history, where he was born (Jaipur), his birth name (Iqbal Hussain). How he fell in love with a Hindu girl in his youth – the song “Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padhkar” was written for her (so says Wikipedia) which was later used in “Sangam” by Raj Kapoor.
