A few days ago when it was Lata Mangeshkar’s birth anniversary on 28 september 2016, I posted a Lata writeup, where I mentioned that we have been discussing a Lata song almost on a daily basis right from the beginning of this blog 8 years ago. I knew that we had more than 3070 Lata songs in the blog. I became curious to find out the number of days for which this blog is active. At first I decided to do the calculation manually, but then decided that I should let technology do the hard work for me. So, after some trial and error, I got just the excel formula that I needed. It was then that I realised that the blog was 2994 days old at that time. I mentioned this fact in the blog. I also realised that we were very close to 3000 days mark. So I contacted a few regulars of the blog and requested them for their special writeups on the occasion.

“Mahal” (1949) was a Bombay Talkies production. This movie was directed by Kamal Amrohi who was making his debut as a director in this movie. This movie was the first Hindi suspense movie and it was made in an extremely professional manner. When the movie begins and credits roll on the screen against the backdrop of a spooky looking mansion (Mahal) and accompanied by suspenseful background music, each and every name that appears on the screen turns out to be legendary name, be they actors or background personnel. For example, choreography of dances in this movie was done by Pt Lachchu Maharaj, while the cinematographer of this movie was Josef Wirsching.

Rajkumari Dubey (1924 – 20/03/2000), popularly known as Rajkumari, was one of the earliest playback singers who dominated playback singing in the 40s. During my younger days, I used to identify her with a popular song ‘sun bairi balam sach bol re’ from the film BAAWRE NAIN (1952). It was her interview on Doordarshan in the 80s and some other video clips of her performances that made me to search for more of her songs. I found that she was not only an accomplished singer but also a ‘zinda dil’ (lively) person who zest for life was not dampened by her adverse financial condition in her later life.
