Today (5 may 2013) is the seventh death anniversary of Naushad (25 december 1919- 5 may 2006). He was one of the earliest pioneers of Hindi movie music who helped shape the destiny of Hindi movie music and determined the course that this new music form would take.

“Shabaab” (1954) was a musical extravaganza and some people in fact regard it as Naushad’s greatest music for a movie, which is high praise indeed.

“Darshan” (1941) was directed by Chimanlal Luhar. The movie had Prem Adib, Jyoti, Bhudo Advani etc in it.
Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from this movie. This song is sung by Sheetal Ghosh. From the name of the singer, I expected to listen to a sweet female voice. But I found myself listening to a masculine voice instead. 🙂

The world of Hindi movie music is like a vast ocean containing treasures within it. Popular and well known songs are like treasures that are known to everyone. Then there are lesser known treasures that one can come across easily enough in ankle deep shallow portion of the ocean. But there are treasures that are lying hidden far out and deep into this ocean and the only way one can discover them is by going into great depth and diving repeatedly and patiently to come up with goodies.

Way, way back when we were jumping with joy, on 13th November, 2011 – this blog had reached the magic number of 5000 songs. I am sure many had it in their minds to think about the 10,000th song. When I had watched “Mother India” (1957) for the first time during late 1970s/ early 1980s, I did not realise that the movie had so many songs in it. I throught that the movie have about five or six songs in it. As it is, we have already discussed as many as ten songs from this movie in the blog and there are some more songs still left to be discussed.
