The movie had Dilip Kumar, Vyjyanti Mala, Raj Kumar, Pandhari Bai, Motilal, B Saroja Devi, Johny Walker, Minu Mumtaz, Vasundhara Devi, Protim Devi, Bannerji, Mukherji, Shivraj, Sitalaxmi, Ishwarlal, Pushpmala, Master Gopi, Karupayya, Radjha, Madhavan, Amar, Kamal Krishn etc in it.

Today (7 september) is the death anniversary of Vasundhara Devi. She was a leading actress of Tamil movies in 1940s and 1950s. She also acted in one Hindi movie namely “Paighaam”(1959) where she played the role of Vyjyanti Mala.

“Paighaam” (1959)which was a Gemini Pictures productions, is a movie that had Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar together for the first time. This big budget movie was directed by S S Vasan.

As bicycle songs go, this must be the ultimate bicycle song. In this song, people ,led by Johny Walker, are riding bicycles and going in a procession singing this song. I have not watched the movie, but what I can deduce from the picturisation and the lyrics is that they are raising their voices against a person in authority who is using his public office for personal gains. So such things happened in those days also. 🙂

Yesterday I posted a wonderful “roadside tamasha” song picturised on Minu Mumtaz and Johny Walker from “Ek Saal” (1957).
The song must have caught the imagination of the movie goers, and the same duo played similar roles in subsequent movies as well.
