Raja of Jhumri Tilayya, oops, Holland, keeps wondering why I did not post this song, and whether I did not like this song. Rest assured , Raja, I like all songs of Shammi Kapoor, or for that matter, songs picturised on any other actors, and there is no way I would not have liked this song.

Laxmikant Pyarelal had dabbled into Goan folk music while composing music for “Bobby”. That “Bobby” song was “Na maangoon sona chaandi, na maangoon heera moti”. They used the same tune in another song of that era, viz “Daaru ki bottle mein saahab paani bharta hai” from an Amitabh Bachchan movie called Majboor.

“Kasauti” was a movie with Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in the lead. The movie flopped badly. But there was one song in this movie that became very popular those days. And this qawwali is just as foot tapping as any other R D Burman compositions. This must rank as one of the best qawwalis in Bollywood movies, that is for sure.
