Today’s song is from the film Room No. 9 (1946).

There were 2 more rooms on which films were made – Room No. 17 and Room No.203. I wonder what happened to the other rooms ? I am also hurt by the title of a film as ” B-13 -Fear has a New Address” made in 2009. My flat number in Mumbai is B-13 and I never ever saw any Atulite frightened in my flat when so many ASAD meetings were held here ! And also when some members had stayed here overnight also ! However, I did not file any case against the film’s producer, lest it became ‘ an address to fear ‘ for him !

I had almost forgotten about the existence of a film titled ‘Room No. 9’ (1946) until I came across a song from the film on one of the video sharing platforms a few days back. I checked on our Blog to know that two songs from the film was covered in the Blog as early as in March 2013 but surprisingly, the song which I had heard has not yet been covered in the Blog. I liked the song so much that I decided to share the song on the Blog with a small write-up.

Tum mere pass hote ho goya
Jab koi doosra nahi hota

Most of the readers of this blog may have known this she’r albeit with a minor variation in the song o mere shaah e khubaan written by Hasrat Jaipuri in ‘Love in Tokyo’ (1966). But how many of us would have known ( including me until few months back) that this original she’r was written by Momin Khan ‘Momin’, one of the prominent Urdu poets in the Mughal court during early 1800s. And what a beautiful romantic she’r!. Mirza Ghalib who was the contemporary and a close friend of Momin is reported to have offered his entire ‘Diwan e Ghalib’ for Momin’s this she’r, one among the nine she’rs in his ghazal ‘asar usko jaraa nahin hota’.

From the little information that I have been able to dig up about this movie, it seems that this movie was directed by Vedi (?). The movie had Shyam, Geeta, Nizami, K N Singh, Saroj Borkar etc in it.
