“Nateeja”(1969) was produced by Jugal Kishore and is directed by Rajesh Nanda. The movie had Vinod Khanna and Bindu in lead roles (both making their debuts) alongwith KN Singh, Jugal Kishore, Junior Mehmood etc in it as well.

The movie had six songs in it. Five of these spongs have been covered in the past.

Here is the sixth and final song from “Nateeja”(1969) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Kamal Barot, Usha Timothy, Shamshad Begam and Usha Khanna. Though there were two lyricists in the movie, the lyricist of this song is not known. Music is composed by Usha Khanna.

The song is picturised as a diversion cum villain’s den song. The hero (Vinod Khanna) is tied up in the villain’s den and this song and dance by four ladies in the standard filmy way of trying and rescuing the hero. I can identify Bindu (lip syncing in Shamshad Begam’s voice) and Jayshree T (lip syncing in Usha Khanna’s voice). There is one extremely short “lady” who is none other than Junior Mehmood in drags who lip syncs in Usha Timothy’s voice). I am unable to identify the lady who lip syncs in Kamal Barot’s voice. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors visible in the picturisation of this song.

Kamal Barot sings a few Gujrati lines, Usha Timothy a few Marathi lines, while Shamshad Begam sings a few lines in Punjabi. I have failed miserably to get these words right. I request our knowledgeable readers to help fill in the correct words in the lyrics. It is only Usha Khanna’s portion of the song, where she sings in “Hyderabadi” that I feel I have noted down correctly.

The dance performance is quite a “jhatkedaar” performance, especially by Jayshree T.

With this song, “Nateeja”(1969) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

When I decided to start this series and my first post appeared here, I had anticipated that there will be several comments from learned readers, who were more knowledgeable than me about the details of Partition and the artistes involved. True to my guess there were many comments on my Fb page immediately. Comments were from people like Ummer Siddique ji, Khawaja Irfan Anwar ji and Dr.Surjit Singh ji. 1969 was the debut year for Bindu and Vinod Khanna was just one year into the industry (having his debut in the ‘Man Ka Meet’ (1968)). In personal life, Bindu was already a married lady by this time. As far as I can review her filmography, the film Nateeja (1969) is apparently the only film in which she has played the role of a leading lady. Having played small roles in Anpadh (1962), as the college going daughter of Mala Sinha, and a supporting role in Aurat (1967), 1969 was the year that that she arrived on the film scene with five releases to her credit, viz. Doli, Ittefaaq, Do Raaste, Aayaa Saawan Jhoom Ke and Nateeja. With a combination of both positive and negative roles, she made her mark this year, and embarked on a career that would make her famous as Mona Darling (Zanzeer, 1971). She played the oomph girl in many films (Kati Patang (1971), Hawas (1974), Imtihaan (1974) etc.), and she also did serious supporting roles in Abhimaan (1973), Chaitaali (1975), Arjun Pandit (1976) etc.
