Among the major contributors in the development of Bollywood mov ie music, C Ramchandra’s name will always figure very prominently. The kind of music that he came up with is simply mind boggling. On the one hand he composed songs based on classical music as well as Indian folk music, and on the other hand he also composed songs based on western music.

“Dilruba” (1950) is a movie that has largely been forgotten. This movie had Dev Anand, Rehana, Yaaqoob, Cuckoo, Balam, Achala Sachdev and Gogiya Pasha in lead roles.

Some two years back, I had collected a list of songs picturised on Railways and I thought that I had covered almost all the songs that were there on this topic. By now, I have discovered several more Rail songs.

It is always refreshing to listen to voices other than the usual ones. If one also gets to watch fresh faces, fresh music directors etc, then it is an added plus.

I am familiar with a movie called “Sargam” that was released in 1979 and that had hit music by Laxmikant Pyarelal. But there was another movie by this name in 1950. It had hit music by C Ramchandra.
